I've still been very run down all week from this virus. We got antibiotics on Wednesday and they're kicking in, but I still have very low energy levels. Done very little in the way of work, although did manage to write a short story called Fair Game.

Fair Game

I wrote this at the request of a couple of friends, and also because I wanted to try writing in the style of a classic children's book. It is set some time after the events in my story A Game of Chess, but it's possible it would stand alone. People go bird-watching and find their courage. There is conscious homage to Antonia Forest's Falconer's Lure.

I think that you could probably get away with not having read Chess, although it does pick up on a particular element of that story and runs with it (Faramir's main plot line in Chess). If you do read Fair Game first, I'd be interested to know if it does work as a stand alone.

I think more of Queen's Gambit would go a very long way towards helping me recover :-)

Chess makes good travel reading (and writing, actually - most of it was done on trains). But it uses up a lot of ink and paper. Looking forwar to more of QG tonight. Enjoy sunny Newcastle!
