Well done episode 1 of the new series of Spooks, not sucking like the entire last season. Keep it up. (Haven't seen ep. 2 yet, no spoilerisms, plz.)

[livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v: Richard Armitage was in it, handily playing a character called Lucas North, so your icon now has extra applicability.

Dear Points of View,

Why oh why oh why, when I loved the the last season with the fiery force of a thousand suns, and when I think Ros is TEH AWESUM and Spoilers ) and it's about SPIES dammit - why oh why oh why am I not enjoying the new season of Spooks? Why oh why oh why have you turned it into something alarmingly like Judge John Deed?

Right this wrong immediately.

Yours faithfully,

Did anyone else watch the first episode of Jane Eyre last night? I thought it looked pretty but was a bit daft. That might be the book rather than the adaptation, of course, it's years since I read it.

For the fanficcers amongst us (surely a minority?), BBC Four have an adaptation of Wide Sargasso Sea coming up in October. Produced by Kudos (they of consistently good telly, e.g. Spooks, Hustle, and Life on Mars).

So Spooks appears to have moved on from being merely extremely good to become ABSOLUTELY FRICKING BRILLIANT.

Cut for spoilers )

I do like Spooks, yes I do, but it's just not Hustle, is it?

I thought this was signalling some kind of maturation process whereby I was moving on from the grayscale world of spies for the more chipper world of nicking things whilst wearing smart suits, but then I watched the last two episodes of Reilly: Ace of Spies and all seemed to be back to normal.

1. It has scenes in which people are deep in conversation on Primrose Hill. All the best spy dramas have people deep in conversation on Primrose Hill.

2. Tim McInnerny's character is wonderfully, unctuously evil. Better than that, it's like we're seeing his character from A Very British Coup twenty years older and twenty years further up the greasy pole.

3. Jan Chappell was in it the other night (I think that's the episode that will be on BBC 1 tonight).
