Well done episode 1 of the new series of Spooks, not sucking like the entire last season. Keep it up. (Haven't seen ep. 2 yet, no spoilerisms, plz.)

[livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v: Richard Armitage was in it, handily playing a character called Lucas North, so your icon now has extra applicability.

Hurrah! Is he a regular, or was he guesting?

I think he's going to become a regular.

It's probably a bit too late for me to get into it now. But maybe it will all come round again. I'm watching the re-showing of Damages on BBC Four at the moment and, though I'm not quite sure about the show, I think I may be in love with Zeljko Ivanek (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0411964/).

There's only Peter Firth left from the original cast, so I wouldn't worry too much about there being a wealth of backstory. The show format is adventure of the week with an arc that builds across a season. They filled in any necessary backstory from last season in flashback during last night's episode.

Malcolm's been around from the start, too. But I usually forget about him, too. :-)

Yes, I only remembered him as I watched last night's ep.

D'y'think ? The overall story was OK but some of the plot was ridiculous, and Harry sounded faintly embarrassed at the triteness (tritity?) of most of the lines he had to deliver. I shall persevere, of course - it's worth watching for Harry/Connie/Malcolm alone - but it feels like it's on the same gradual downhill slide it's been on ever since S1 and S2. Hope I'm just totally wrong.

I thought it did a fair job in delivering fights and quips, and that's all I hope for from Spooks these days.

However, "WE MUST SWITCH OFF THE INTERNET!" was plain daft. But there are only 8 episodes.

On the other hand, who could fail to love "Don't turn round." "Why not?" "I've got split ends."

Ros is the best thing in it, apart from Lucas's angsty tattoos.

I did like the shout-out to Tom Quinn. And suddenly I'm wondering if an older, bitter Wes Carter will turn up in Code 9...

Ooh, that's a good idea. Working for us (in memory of his parents) or against us (to bring down the system that left him orphaned)?

What did you make of Code 9? It signalled strongly to me that I was not its demographic, and I didn't pick it up.

Wes would appear to be the former, only to be suddenly revealed as the latter at a dramatic plot juncture. Or maybe the other way around.

I have all the Code 9 eps on my Sky+ box, but I haven't got around to watching them yet. It's been a bit difficult to get over the "I'll look at that later" inertia, with all the other stuff I have to watch, and it's not helped that the two minutes of Code 9 I have seen looked more like an episode of This Life than a spy drama.
I am reliably told that a second season of Code 9 is quite likely.

*nods* That pretty much sums up my impression. I think I wanted spy-action rather than soap.

That icon has me sniggering in the library. The caption is so inappropriate, and so perfect.
