Yesterday we went to see Round the Horne... Revisited at The Venue, off Leicester Square. It is a performance of scripts from Round the Horne, and some bits of new material. It's staged as a recording session of two shows - so the actors are in part throughout as Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Betty Marsden, Hugh Paddick, and Douglas Smith... doing their various parts of the show. We the audience participate as lively radio audience, rather than as staid theatre audience.

It's brilliantly performed: the chap playing Kenneth Williams rises admirably to the challenge, although we thought that the chap playing Hugh Paddick was best. Naturally, Julian and Sandy are the stars of the show. The staaaaaaaars!

If you ever enjoyed Round the Horne, you'll very much enjoy this. It's an absolute riot and, of course, utterly filthy. I would happily see it many times. Many, many times...

I loved Round the Horne, though I'm not sure I could bear to hear anyone else being "them". (Though it would be rather poetic if Hugh Paddick were to be played by Cmdr Brian P. of the Met, who I believe is his nephew). Sounds good.

Mr A. is a great devotee too, and he came away saying it was the next best thing to attending an actual recording. The woman playing Betty Marsden lacked her versatility, but was still funny (esp. as Dame Celia Molestrangler).

Both the actual film of the latest "Peter Pan" and the promos for "Troy" make me think about poor Jules and Sands getting dragged up on deck.
