I am reading Fallen by aliana1. It's a novel set in the Houses of Healing and it's exceptionally good. Readers of this journal interested in WW1 should read it, as well as Tolkien aficionados.
"Perhaps one day," he said slowly, "there shall be wars where no one needs to touch anyone else." He was smiling now, a thin ghost of a smile. "You would not have to touch a man to kill him, nor be close to him." He shut his eyes. "Perhaps you would not even have to look at him."
I really hoped you'd take a look at it. I think you'd find the whole novel really interesting. I don't think you'd have to be very familiar with Lord of the Rings, just know that the city in which it's set is on the front line of the war, and everyone thinks that the world's about to end.
