P&C was in my local branch of Borders today - three copies of it!

Cool! We should organise a rota of people to go in and enthuse to passersby. :-)

There was someone there stocking shelves, and I only *just* managed to stop myself showing her my name and going, "That's me, that is!"

At least you have a reasonable excuse. If I'd seen it, I would probably have had difficulty stopping myself showing her your name and going, "That's my friend, that is!"

I don't think I could stop myself.

note to self: try not to get banned from Borders.

Getting banned from Borders does have a certain classiness about it. Getting banned from Forbidden Planet would be the real challenge.

"I say, young man, that figurine over there bears no resemblance to his televisual progenitor whatsoever. And what are all these picture books?"

That might get you punched!

Seen 'Notting Hill'? The guy who comes into his travel bookshop and asks for the new John Grisham (I think it is).

That might get you punched!

And the ensuing hilarity would probably lead to a ban.

Alternatively, I could try:
"U R 411 l00zors! Dr Who SuX!"

You wrote a book? What's it called? Tell me more!

I have a short story in an anthology of Deep Space Nine fiction, Prophecy and Change. My story's called Face Value.

No author should ever neglect the opportunity to graciously volunteer to autograph all copies of her/his book that are in stock.

Autographed copies cannot be returned to the publisher.

Although knowing my luck, I'd end up getting arrested for vandalism or something!

I agree that it should not be done on a self-help basis--the consent of some member of the bookstore staff is useful.

You should tell them. Then they'd do a "local author" promo evening, and lay on champagne and smoked salmon.

Well, it could happen. Let me know when it is, so I can come along and trough be madly supportive.

Maybe if they knew that Garak Andy is a close personal friend.

Hardly! I hassled him once for an autograph for a friend.

Excited squeaking and bouncing. (But not too much in case the chair
cannae tak it.)

Maybe we should all get T-shirts stating 'The author is this way', followed by appropriate arrows. Then we can be your posse.

Quavers, yum.

Post-it notes with 'local author' on them was my less than impressive plan.

If the author was this way she wouldn't need the after-shave lotion.

Just felt the overwhelming urge to say that your icon is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
