A very happy Gauda Prime Day to you all! Twenty-eight years since my girlish dreams were blasted to smithereens, and yet the moment is still so fresh. Happy days!
Indeed, the absence of Servalan was a major storytelling error. For months afterwards I went around muttering to anyone who would listen: 'Servalan wasn't there, they've got to get them out of it somehow. If it had been real Servalan would have been there to gloat.'
I didn't know about fandom or fanfic and had no insight into the decision from on high to end the series. I just couldn't believe it... And then when time passed and I believed it I couldn't believe it had been done so sloppily. Why not just have the big Monty Python foot come down on them all? It would have made as much sense.
No logic, no resolution, no redemption. no taking Servalan down with them... Gah! I'm still angry!
It actually felt as though the whole thing had been written with a different ending in mind and 7/8ths of it had been filmed when the phone rang and someone said to the director: I'm sorry but you have to kill them all off... right now. We're not going to a fifth series. So the director walked back into the studio and said: Right, lads, this is what we're gong to do...
