Goddammit, I have ANOTHER cold. It started after Christmas and I thought I'd shaken it off, but it came back over the weekend and it's still here and vicious. Horrible sore throat. I think I've had everything that has gone round since the end of November. I'm in bed watching Deep Space Nine ('Far Beyond the Stars' and 'One Little Ship') and playing on Library Thing, so I suppose it could be worse. Still, though, I'd like to see some of 2009.

Fortunately my taste buds were able to cope with a trip last night to Le Gavroche and I think I can die happy after that cheese souffle and double cream. The atmosphere is wonderful, comfortable and relaxed. ([livejournal.com profile] mraltariel and I agreed how much Garak would love it. And then had a long discussion about the crew of the Liberator going to Wagamama.)

Oh dear, sorry it's hit you again, but glad you managed to get out.

I made cheese souffle for my sister the other night, but it didn't seem to have that effect on her. Though it would have been very awkward if she had died overnight, even if she was happy at the time.

Death by souffle - it would be like a Dorothy L Sayers story.

It was Quark and Ziyal who were into souffle-baking, wasn't it?

Oh I'd forgotten about that! Haute cuisine for the resistance.

Oh, good, I thought I was being slow in failing to recognise your subtle segue from souffle to matters of Cardassian taste first time round...

Subtle segues, souffled or otherwise, are beyond me today.

Your subconscious is still generating them, though. That's really subtle.

Reminds me of the minor royal who was supposed to have been drowned in a butt of malmsey (not that I can remember precisely who it was).

Blake's number 7, 149, and a green tea.

I'm sorry about your cold; I hope you're feeling better soon - and definitely by Tuesday!

That souffle sounds wonderful; is Mr A going to add it to his repertoire?

I admire your familiarity with the menu! On the souffle - I hope so. Although the vacpac has arrived, so I'm expecting things compressed to within an inch of their lives...

Lord, I hope I feel better by Tuesday too, that would be more than a fortnight :-(

I've been reading good things about Le Govroche for years! Nice to read a summary of how it was for you.

It was exceptionally good: I think I liked it more than both Ramseys and the Waterside. The service was an interesting mix of very formal silver service and something more relaxed. It has a cosy, clubbish feel inside as well (there are picture of the interior on the website I linked to).

There seem to be some really nasty colds going around at the moment. Before Christmas my mum was in bed for a couple of days with some flu type thing which gave her aching joints for added fun. And she's the kind of person who doesn't stop for much short of Black Death.

Mmm...cheese souffle...

And then had a long discussion about the crew of the Liberator going to Wagamama.

For some reason, this idea amuses me a lot.

Us too! You know they'd spend ages about arguing where to go, and finally Jenna would stamp her foot and make an executive decision, and Avon would hate it because of having to sit next to strangers, and Blake would love it because he's hanging out with ordinary people instead of in the Alpha grade section, and Gan would think it's the classiest place he's ever visited, and it would end with Cally getting mindwiped by the PDA ordering technology (that bit was [livejournal.com profile] mraltariel's idea).

I was automatically thinking of Series 3, so I had Dana putting everyone off their food by telling everyone how much better duck tastes when you've shot and skinned it yourself. Meanwhile, Tarrant would be flirting with the staff, while Vila peers very suspiciously at all the dishes and refuses to eat anything he doesn't recognise.

And then when they tried to pay, Avon's card would be declined and it would turn out that Servalan owned the franchise.

The common cold and the flu seem to be en vogue these days. (I, too, called in sick at the office this afternoon.) A diet of tea, vitamine C and skiffy sounds like the ideal treatment, though. Hope you'll feel better soon!

Thank you! :-) I've spent as much time as possible over the last few days in bed reading, and now I almost feel human again. It's my birthday next week! I want to feel fine for that!

Sorry to hear you're unwell again! I blame the festive season; all that social mingling is unnatural and spreads the plague. I hope the bedrest works and you feel brighter shortly.

I can spend ages playing on LibraryThing. I've just discovered the fun of adding first & last lines, epigraphs and dedications.

It is something to do with all that unnatural mingling. I think I picked it up at the mall. Serves me right.

I didn't know those tools were there on LibraryThing! *goes for a play*

Boo to all the rotten colds landing on you! Boo I say, boo! I hope you feel better soon.

Mmmmm, souffle. I still have plans to try to make a souffle sometime soon. I now have a souffle dish and all!

Would Garak take Julian to Le Gavroche?

Would Garak take Julian to Le Gavroche?

YES YES YES.

Boo indeed! Stupid colds. Stupid rotten colds. I'm sick of this now. But it does mean an excuse to lie in bed with a walter hottle bottle, watching telly.

It is horribly cold, which hasn't helped. The central heating makes us both feel worse - dehydration - so, madly, we've been having to turn it off.
