I've failed to send out cards this year on account of finishing up teh book, so I've spent my stamp money on some good gifts for you all instead. Please then to be enjoying your hive of bees and your puffin aid.

We are off to London this afternoon to spend the holiday with J&K&R. Whatever festival you are celebrating at this time of year, be it Yule, the Solstice, Hannukah, Christmas or Gauda Prime Day, I hope that you are well and happy, and rest assured that we shall be raising a glass to you all:

BEEES!!!!

(Bees are my secret Vergil totem - they were central to the conception of, then cut from every version of, the thesis/book. So I am very happy with my hive!)

Georgics! I did not know they were your totem, that is fortuitous!

From: [identity profile] gair.livejournal.com
The Georgics, which are completely brilliant, but also the Aeneid which is way intertextual - the best sentence I ever wrote in the thesis (which was cut before the final version, again) was 'Aeneas loves Dido because she is a bee.' (This is true! At least, there is a bee simile and all of a sudden Aeneas is in love with Dido.)

This is my new Vergil icon!

I like your new icon! Your sentence would fit on an LJ icon, which is almost like having it in your thesis, surely? At the least you could certainly fit "because she is a bee" on an icon.

I have been making icons between paragraphs! (Here is another one.)

Now everyone's feelings have been sorted out in my story and I have to write the plot, so I will certainly make a BECAUSE SHE IS A BEE icon.

Bees! And puffins! Are very good Christmas cards indeed.

Have a lovely holiday!

I thought so too, although I was tempted by the goats.

Safe travelling to you, and *hugs*

I *love* puffins.

Uh, bees are nice, too, I just don't feel so strongly about them.

I have just eaten huge amounts of fresh bread, and there is a sleeping kitten beside me. Life's good.

Peace and best wishes to you and yours, and thank you for being one of the voices in the internet-wilderness that kept me sane this year.

I love puffins too, ever since learning to read courtesy of Puffin Books and being a member of their Puffin Club.

Happiness is...!

All the very best to you, and here's to striving for more internet-sanity next year.

Ack! Bees! ;) (Of course, that is one meaning of my name, so... ;)

I adore puffins, though-- have you ever gone to Lundy Island, in the Bristol Channel? They're a puffin haven. :)

Merry Christmas.

I find you don't tend to see his brothers on telly so much these days, I don't know why. I will admit to a small exclamation of delight when he turned up in A Knight's Tale, though.

Repeats of The Professionals and The Sweeney are also fertile Brimble territory.

From: [identity profile] hutch0.livejournal.com
Oh, I know. There's one - I can't remember whether it's a Sweeney or a Professionals - where he played an ex-con just out of prison and looking for revenge and he tied a hawk's feather behind his ear and I thought that was the coolest thing I'd seen. (I was young and I was from Sheffield; I hadn't seen many cool things yet.)

Date: 2009-01-08 12:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com
It must be The Professionals, he's a semi-regular copper in The Sweeney. But I'd have to rootle around the box set to make sure. Look at his fascinating bio.

Date: 2009-01-08 11:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hutch0.livejournal.com
Hm. The IMDb rules out The Sweeney - he's listed as a Detective Constable. He did two Professionals but neither of them sounds familiar. Could've been Dempsey And Makepeace. I see with interest he did Danger UXB and an episode of Space 1999, too, both of which I'd forgotten about.

That is an interesting CV, isn't it? I knew some of it already, but I'd never heard about the lecturing in Baghdad before.

Same to you. Thanks to you also, I discovered a xmas present for myself.

The Red File Of Callan, found at local secondhand bookshop for a whopping 40c.

Happy New Year!

Yay, puffins. Puffins are A Good Thing. (We have a very cute finger-puppet one brought back from the trip to Lundy that took place over First Small Person's birthday. It is, inevitably, called Nuffin.)

More than happy for stamp and card money to go on puffins and bees :-)

Hope you've had a wonderful relaxing holiday and come back refreshed and recharged!

Bees, hurrah! (My parents were beekeepers for a while.) And surely everyone reading your LJ realizes that sending out a book is more important than sending out cards. I wish my excuse was so worthy. :D
