Doomsday

'Doomsday' didn't make me weep copiously like 'The Parting of the Ways' did, but it did press a lot of buttons. Sad Doctor alone with his triumph for one, "I did my duty..." for another, but the tears were saved for Jackie and Pete's reunion.

Everyone else has already commented on the Pullman rip-off homage, so I'll throw in another comparison which came to me while I was watching, to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Rose is saved by Daddy's miraculous appearance, just in the nick of time. Not so poor Harry, left to conjure up his own Patronus. It's more realistic, perhaps, but possibly one of the saddest stories ever told.

Daleks and Cybermen going "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" was just splendid. But Catherine Tate! Catherine *&£%$!! Tate! Spoil the moment, why don't you?!

I cried at both bits, but yes, probably more for Jackie and Pete.

The Dalek/Cybermen line that really had me laughing was 'Together, we can upgrade the universe'

Camille Coduri was amazing in that scene. She came close to stealing the whole two-parter, I think.

Yes, I think it was a splendid story for Jackie, and a great range for her - it made up for a lot of nonsense at times over the last two seasons. And Camille Coduri made a great job of it.

That was one of my favourite lines too. I loved the Dalek/Cybermen interaction.

How mean and hardened am I if I say that I was merely laughing hollowly and cynically for the last eight minutes of the episode...?

The scene with Jackie and Pete in the corridor, though, made me laugh in exactly the right manner, i.e. grin and whoop and cheer them on.

And Daleks and Cybermen are clearly a match made in heaven: "Social interaction will cease!" Heh.

Nice icon, by the way.

I'm a big old softie, I'll cry at anything if there's a piano going plink again and again in the background.

You shouldn't have mentioned the word "piano". It's clearly giving me the wrong ideas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F0qUmeRI7E)... ;)
