'Doomsday' didn't make me weep copiously like 'The Parting of the Ways' did, but it did press a lot of buttons. Sad Doctor alone with his triumph for one, "I did my duty..." for another, but the tears were saved for Jackie and Pete's reunion.

Everyone else has already commented on the Pullman rip-off homage, so I'll throw in another comparison which came to me while I was watching, to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Rose is saved by Daddy's miraculous appearance, just in the nick of time. Not so poor Harry, left to conjure up his own Patronus. It's more realistic, perhaps, but possibly one of the saddest stories ever told.

Daleks and Cybermen going "come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" was just splendid. But Catherine Tate! Catherine *&£%$!! Tate! Spoil the moment, why don't you?!
