I just got back in to find that the washing machine had made a bid for freedom, loosed its chains, and sent flying everything that was on the counter anove it - including a glass decanter, a pile of scraps meant for the recycling bin, and four bottles that (previously) contained gin and vodka. The kitchen floor is mushy and crunchy. At least I have a haircut and a good sense of humour.

ETA: Hurrah for the doughty bottle of vodka that wasn't going to let being launched into space stop it from doing its duty and PROTECT THE BOOZE WITHIN. Alas for my little tortoise joss stick holder that has been beheaded. Just a bit of gin to mop up now and I'm done.

Aaaargh! I hope it's not going to take you forever to clean up.

There's one good point: at least your cafetiere wasn't on top of it.

Date: 2006-04-06 03:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com
Bloody close thing with the cafetiere, actually, which I'd moved from by the cooker before I went out, but had left on the other side of the sink.

It shouldn't take too long. We're still waiting for the old fridge to be collected, and it acted as a barrier between the washer and the rest of the kitchen.

What a pain in the butt! Hopefully the bottles were mostly empty. What a horrid sounding mess to clean up. An eternal optimist would point out that the alcohol at least means any cuts will be disinfected on the spot.

Hopefully there is more liquor in the house. I bet you will need a drink by the time it is set to right.

I never go out with the wash machine running, because it is prone to getting out of balance on the spin cycle, and needs quick intervention from time to time.

Happy Henneth Annûn Day!

Sorry about the tortoise ;-(

I'm massively grateful for the choc-and-ginger ice-cream, it did sterling service yesterday.

The washing machine is working fine, so no techical breakdowns - it just got overexcited on the spin cycle. I should have known better than to leave all that stuff on top of it. Poor wee tortoise!

It's all about this reckless and risky Going Outside lark. After all, we sat in your kitchen for 3 days, and did anything like this happen?

Glad to hear the mopping up is done, but I am sorry about your tortoise, and the alcohol.

The vodka bottle has clearly taken 'Protect and Survive' to be its motto. Treasure it; it could be all that stands between you and oblivion in the event of a nuclear attack (probably launched by a conspiracy between the washing machines, the European fridge mountain, and a bunch of renegade and rusting Trabants).

Has it occured to you that the vodka bottle might be the Evil Mastermind behind the whole catastrophe? The lone survivor, lying amidst the debris, saying "It was the washing machine wot done it, guv..." It's all a little too perfect, wouldn't you say? If Gene Hunt were there, he'd have that bottle banged up before you could say "Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984".

Not again - how awful! I hope you're able to get some help with it. Horrible to have to come home to something like that, and it can be surprisingly upsetting when little things you like get broken (I mean the tortoise, not the, erm, wodka).

At least you have good hair. That always helps.

I'm starting to think I've offended Poseidon. It didn't take too long to clear up, thank god; all sorted now. Poor little tortoise, he had sat peaceably on a shelf in the front room since we moved in, until I decided to promote him to the kitchen in order to use him. Ah well, could be much worse, all that glass could have hurt one of us.

The washing machine is still working fine (thank goodness) it just got far too enthusiastic about a spin cycle. I should have known better than to stack all that stuff on top of it.

No problems with the clearing up at all - it was mostly just annoying to have to do that rather than get back to editing Red River. The kitchen is looking pretty spotless right now :-)
