I just got back in to find that the washing machine had made a bid for freedom, loosed its chains, and sent flying everything that was on the counter anove it - including a glass decanter, a pile of scraps meant for the recycling bin, and four bottles that (previously) contained gin and vodka. The kitchen floor is mushy and crunchy. At least I have a haircut and a good sense of humour.

ETA: Hurrah for the doughty bottle of vodka that wasn't going to let being launched into space stop it from doing its duty and PROTECT THE BOOZE WITHIN. Alas for my little tortoise joss stick holder that has been beheaded. Just a bit of gin to mop up now and I'm done.

This one won't be by the time I've finished with it.

Aaaargh! I hope it's not going to take you forever to clean up.

There's one good point: at least your cafetiere wasn't on top of it.

Bloody close thing with the cafetiere, actually, which I'd moved from by the cooker before I went out, but had left on the other side of the sink.

It shouldn't take too long. We're still waiting for the old fridge to be collected, and it acted as a barrier between the washer and the rest of the kitchen.

Ah, i see my latest plan for world domination via white goods has been thwarted. Ho hum, it's back to the drawing board...

(That just reminded me of a 70's Muppet Show news sketch where the TV came alive and ate someone. How random is that?)

Uh-oh. You'd have been so much more gutted about the booze had you been... well, me, for example.

Hope the clean-up operation goes smoothly and without further incident!

What a pain in the butt! Hopefully the bottles were mostly empty. What a horrid sounding mess to clean up. An eternal optimist would point out that the alcohol at least means any cuts will be disinfected on the spot.

Hopefully there is more liquor in the house. I bet you will need a drink by the time it is set to right.

I never go out with the wash machine running, because it is prone to getting out of balance on the spin cycle, and needs quick intervention from time to time.

Happy Henneth Annûn Day!

You're safe with the cafetiere as long as I'm not within a hundred miles of it...

If this would have happened to me, I'd now have a cut and bleeding foot to boot. Hide a shard somewhere within a circle of 100 metres, and my soles will find it. Bless your good humour - and the haircut, too! *smiles*

There's something very sad about mopping up gin.

Fortunately (!) it was all behind the door I use to come in and out of the house. So I hadn't kicked my shoes off. They're good and sturdy and getting a nice crunchy sound.

I thought it was going to be a 'three times and I'm done' deal. At least I didn't smash a mirror while I was at it.

I like your thinking, sir.

Happy HA Day! If I wasn't mucking about right now in gin and glass, I'd be editing my birthday story. Ah well, it'll just be a few hours late.

Also some s/hand Rosemary Sutcliffs. I can't feel too bad when I've got books to fondle.

And it smells so unpleasant.

I'm very sorry to hear about the tortoise.

Oh dear. You should start getting drunk on the vodka that's still left after coping with the chaos. Hopefully, the haircut was at least worth it.

I've got chocolate and ginger ice cream in the freezer, thank god. The haircut was... nearly worth it.

Poor tortoise, he'd been around a good while.

Well, it's done. I had to clean the kitchen tomorrow anyway, so I've just shifted the mess and the rest can wait till the morning.

I am firmly convinced of the depravity of inanimate objects!

Enjoy the vodka, and the haircut.

This kitchen is definitely cursed.

The vodka and the haircut, the new Rosemary Sutcliffs and the chocolate-and-ginger ice-cream - these are making me happy.
