One other thing I did want to say about 'Bad Wolf' was just how frickin' marvellous the Controller was. All those years, enslaved body and mind by the Daleks, and still goes on fighting the long defeat. She needs an icon of her own, I'll have to think of something. Oh, and Mr A. pointed out that when the Doctor tells Rose, "I'm coming to get you", it is of course what Davina always says to an evicted housemaker. Clever RTD; clever Mr A..

I am really knackered at the moment - I had to go and have a nap this afternoon and I haven't had to do that for ages. Actually, the last time I did that on a regular basis was when I was writing A Game of Chess so I'm hoping it's indicative of high creativity going on somewhere. Anyway, I'm really sorry if it means I'm ages behind on emails and not really commenting and so on. Must go to bed. .

Coming to us soon on DVD, Redcap starring John Thaw: "Thaw plays Sgt John Mann of the Royal Military Police's Special Investigation Branch in this groundbreaking, gritty drama which has not been seen since its original transmission on ITV in October 1964." Cool. The people releasing it have just - thank god - acquired the rights to release Callan so I might soon be able to have more than the 9 episodes I've been limited to.

*hugs* for the knackeredness. Hope you sleep well, and long, and deeply tonight.

I did something similar on Saturday - got up around 10am, went back to bed at 2pm and slept for most of the afternoon.

And that's a very good point about the controller.

And that's an excellent icon.

*hugs* back to you for tiredness. I slept OK, although I woke up a bit early and still feeling a bit tired. Ah well, there's always tonight.

Glad you like the icon, your new one is gorgeous, although I'm stupidly not recognizing the image.

The image for the icon is Rose's handprint on the Dalek in chains in Dalek. Glad you like it.

One other thing I did want to say about 'Bad Wolf' was just how frickin' marvellous the Controller was.

My theory is she was supposed to be Suki from the earlier episode but they couldn't get the actress or something. The 'they're nobone' line would have been (even more) Significant, it would make (a hell of a lot) more sense why she called the Doctor (using very similar guerilla tactics to before) and the Doctor's 'I did this' speech would have happened when he met her again, suspended from the cables. Also, her infiltration, resistance, defeat and death this time would have mirrored the earlier ep perfectly. She even looked like her. [/whacky theory]

That's an interesting one. Suki is another of those great, strong, self-sacrificing female characters we've had all the way through.

I love that icon!

That's a good point about the controller. Good for her.

I'm sorry about the tiredness. I seem to be somewhere similar myself at the moment. Well, except for the creativity, of course. ;-) I hope that that's going well. I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight.

Sort of slept OK, thank you. Woke up a bit earlier than I would have liked. I never sleep well in the summer. I wish it would make up its mind whether or not it's going to rain properly or not.

I wish the temperature would make up its mind, too. Whatever I decide to wear seems to be the wrong thing at the moment.

That reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict's comparing the Controller with Agatha from Minority Report. I had the same surprise, watching both, when this person who seemed to have been turned into a piece of machinery suddenly revealed that she still had her own will, and her own agenda.

She was a strikingly realised character, I thought. Both visually and in the actress' performance.

Sorry you're feeling worn out - hope the naps will keep the brain topped up.

[livejournal.com profile] jhall1 noted down-thread that there've been a number of very strong female characters throughout, in almost every episode.

I slept OK last night, thanks, but woke up a bit early. I'm taking it easy this morning.

I've read that in a few places, and whilst I agree, I have to admit my first thought was "Borg Queen". Though I don't remember whether she was quite so wired-up or not.

Didn't she have a fair bit of mobility despite all the wiring?

You're probably right, I don't remember Voyager in great detail, it was just my first impression. And of course, the role turns out to be very different.

I think I'm remembering from one of the movies, although I can't for the life of me remember which.

Oh, I'm thinking of a two-part story in the TV series. 'Twas big on Seven Of Nine and Species 8472.

I think in total I saw five episodes of Voyager: the pilot double episode, the finale double episode, and Bride of Chaotica. Oh, I think I saw part 2 of Year of Hell, or bits of it, at any rate.

God I love that icon...

Naps are natural, naps are good. Don't forget that a lot of med countries have a national built in nap! So if you are feeling a bit worried about it just start calling it a siesta!

...and I'm certain I read somewhere that children who take naps are far more creative and productive so I'm sure that it holds for adults too.*

*I can't remember where though so I might have dreamed it.

"It must be true, I thought it in my head."

Help yourself to the icon, should you so desire!

Agreed. It's interesting that almost every episode in the series has had at least one really impressively strong female character. One wonders if it's no more than chance or a deliberate policy.

Yes, there have been some great female characters. I liked Raffalo (sp?) in particular, although Gwynydd was excellent - another brave person who sacrifices herself. I wonder how they're meant to relate to/reflect upon Rose.

I don't know whether they're meant to relate to or reflect on Rose at all.

My own favourite was Nancy. I also rather liked the woman aide who took control of the mega-corporation at the end of Dalek. Which one was Raffalo? I don't recall the name.

Raffalo was the space plumber in 'The End of the World' (depicted in this icon).

Thanks. Now I remember her. I suppose that she was rather over-shodowed for me by Jabe.

She has that one little scene, but she just sparkles in it. I agree Jabe is wonderful.
