Wow, that was really, really bad - but in all the right kind of ways.

Beg your pardon...?

I thought it was a bad film, but that didn't interfere with my enjoyment and, in fact, actively contributed to it.

Aha. Does that mean that it slaughtered the Iliad and made Homer turn in his grave, but was a great fun anyway?

*malicious grin*

Exactly that. It's not often I'm driven to beg for mercy during the course of a film. (Hm, there was Pearl Harbor.)

There were some good bits, involving Hector. But Brad Pitt was so bad...

We saw it last week and enjoyed it, but the main criticism was that it went on far too long. Admittedly there was a lot of story to squeeze in, but there's only so many funeral pyres you can watch before you start to get a bit restless.

At least I kind of understand now what all the fuss from the girls about that Brad is for. He always looked like a runty little man before, but he spent a lot of time in this film wandering around with no clothes on (for plot reasons, I'm given to understand), and now I can see what they're on about.

Now I was sure I was going to find it too long, but that was one thing it didn't do wrong for me - I thought it jogged along quite nicely. Admittedly I have a fascination for funeral pyres.

I still don't see it with Brad Pitt, to be honest. Not my cup of tea at all.

Though if I recall correctly, tea isn't your cup of tea either ???

Imagine remembering that.

I'm with you; Pouty Pitt (even in the buff) isn't my cup of tea, cup of coffee, dram of Scotch...

I think Shania's song said it best:
...Who do you think you are? Brad Pitt?
That don't impress me much...

*chuckling* Yes, Shania got it right.

(starts rummaging around for CD...)

The movie has just the right sort of cheesiness to make it entertaining, doesn't it? Most bad movies are just bad; there's something special about Troy which allows it to transcend that.

The little carving of the horse followed by the light bulb going on over Odysseus's head was a truly great moment of cinema. Not as great as Christopher Lee fighting rubber dolly Yoda, but on the same lines.

And once again Sean Bean proves he can steal any movie he's in, even if he's only supposed to be one of the supporitng cast.

Yes, Bean was definitely the best thing in it. I loved his voice-overs at the start and end.

Then you will *love* 'Troy'.

It isn't slow, which would have made it irredeemably bad. It jogs along at a fair old pace, which makes it all pretty enjoyable.
