I have an idea for a book called 'Election Night Special' which is like an oral history book - like Studs Terkel did about the 2nd WW -or a bit like a Nick Hornby book, in which people recount their memories of election nights. They are some of my most vivid memories.

That's a really great idea - how far would you take it back. (I suppose it would be, simultaneously, a history of how the news is reported.)

There's a book by Brian Cathcart called Were You Still Up For Portillo?, which is an hour by hour description of the unfolding of the 1997 election. Not the same thing as you're describing, but a very readable book. Good title too.

Yes, I like Were you still up for Portillo? (a title which, it never occurred to me before is capable of more than one interpretation) But I shall certainly not be watching TV on 3 May. Wasn't once enough?

The site has an article from the New York Times about them, so I wonder if they're going to be made available in the US (and, actually, whether they'll be available in the UK!). I'll keep watching that space and let you know when they're out, and we can fix up a trade or something, no problem about that.
