Job applications

I really really hate filling in job applications. This one is made particularly irritating by the fact that I'm having to copy out in my less than great handwriting entire chunks of a very nicely laid-out CV. Grr, argh indeed.

Meanwhile, I herd students together so that I can teach them things later in the week that they probably don't really care about.

I was made to feel old earlier today when someone on one of my mailing lists asked why people put the suffix 'gate' to words when they mean a scandal.

It's a good job this is such a good song.

I forgive you. In fact, I take a morbid interest in discovering where exactly lies the generation gap between me and e.g. my students. Trying to discuss the miners' strike in class now most often gets me blank or pitying looks. My own historical expertise is the more usual 19th century stuff, although I suspect that these days I'm better on the history of Gondor during the rule of the Stewards. The oath of Cirion and Eorl a speciality.

I mean, writing histories of unexplored regions in fictional worlds simply to use some elements in a derivate work of fanfiction must make me pretty far gone, no?

*bangs head on wall* I'm so sorry! You shouldn't be feeling old (especially since you're not). It's just me, I'm a dumb kid who doesn't know better. And I have earned a reputation for being dense at times. :P
