We have had a leak in our shower on and off for ages now, and are waiting for the plumber to fix it. In the meantime, when someone decides to take their time to have a shower, water gushes through the kitchen ceiling, conveniently on the spot just in front of the fridge where one would stand to prepare breakfast.

Now it seems that either the washing machine or the dishwasher has sprung a leak too - the carpet in the extension at the back of the house is sodden. Put your foot on it and squelch.

I keep peeking out of the window to see if the Eagles are coming.

We are running off to RĂ³menna spend the New Year on the Isle of Wight from the 27th, so these problems will just have to wait.

Well. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life (no need to sing this while crucified): your very own swimming pool. In your own house.
Isle of Wight- more water!

Hm, although I don't swim! Still - swimming pool, surely adds value to this already extremely desirable residence... *cough cough*

I'm coming to believe that water is an evil substance! At least while you're away things may have the chance to dry out a bit, since you won't be using the shower, the dishwasher, or the laundry during that time.

Good luck tracking down and slaying all the leaks!

The sooner the sonic shower is invented the better.

The central heating will be coming on while we're away, so hopefully the place will dry out.

I was sorry to read about your rotten dose of flu while you were up in NY - hope you're feeling better now.

I have a cough that make me sound like I'm dying, but am actually feeling fine. Which is a good thing, as work doesn't appear to be slowing down for the holidays. :(

Ack, I hope work starts to slacken up soon.

A very happy Christmas, Ithilwen - I do hope you get some rest.

I'm very sorry to hear about the rising, falling, and lateral damp conditions. They sell bags of silica gel which might be able to get the condition under control when you're gone.

I used to get this peculiar oily slick creeping across the floor of the front vestibule, which made me nervous until I realized it was water leaching out of the bag of calcium chloride I keep to melt the snow--sort of my very own Weeping Virgin Icon.

Have a wonderful trip!

Ooh, I like the idea of having a site of pilgrimage here. I think I'll shove some red food colouring down the sink and see what comes out.

Does this mean bare feet, sackcloth, and prostration next time I visit?

I was thinking of something a bit more glitzy, Lourdes-style. But we can do sackcloth if you prefer! :-D

Eek!

Reminds me of when I was younger. The house in which I grew up was built in the post-war frenzy in the late 40s or early 50s, and so the maple trees on the lawn grew and grew and broke through the clay sewer pipes with their roots and backed up water into our basement every time we had a big storm.

We had a carpeted basement... five steps down... and I'd go running down there to watch TV... step step step step sploosh!

I hope it gets dried out for ya!

Ouch. Reminds my of when my house flooded due to a leaky washing machine hose. I do hope you get it fixed before it gets much worse. Best of luck with that.

Thanks. Hopefully it'll dry while we're away. We were getting the plumber in to do the shower anyway, so we'll just add this to the list of jobs...
