RotK again
Dec. 22nd, 2003 11:33 amI went to see it again last night with
glitterboy1,
trixieleitz, and Trixie's BoT.
It's not like I'm unfamiliar with the plot of The Lord of the Rings. But I was so absorbed by the seige of Gondor and the burning of Minas Tirith that when the horns of the Rohirrim sounded, I realized I had forgotten that they were going to arrive. That was a bit mind-blowing.
...[I]n that very moment, away behind in some courtyard of the City, a cock crowed. Shrill and clear he crowed, recking nothing of wizardry or war, welcoming only the morning that in the sky far above the shadows of the death was coming with the dawn.
And as if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed. Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last.
I blub at this bit in the book, and I blubbed last night too.

Sometimes I want to take passages like that, inscribe them on baseballs bats, and use them to beat people who say JRRT can't write. I've gone all shivery.
