We've set the date so that it's convenient for people attending WorldCon! And Cambridge is a short hop up from London - 50 minutes by train from King's Cross station!
When will you have more info? Bujold is one of my favourite writers. I'm certainly thinking of attending, though it's going to be a busy time as Milford starts on the following Saturday - specifically timed to follow Worldcon for writers coming across the pond. http://www.milfordSF.co.uk
I'm going to try to sort out booking over the next few weeks. Details of the programme will take longer as I wait for abstracts to come in.
In the meantime, for planning purposes, it's Weds 20th August, in Cambridge, and a single day conference, running from 9.30am-5.30pm. If you stick around in London after Worldcon, you can be in Cambridge from King's Cross in about an hour. The university is a 15 min walk from the station, or else a quick taxi ride.
Hmmm... Thanks for pointing this out. I've emailed my sister (greerwatson on LJ) who regularly goes to give academic papers at the Sci-Fi Conference in Florida each March and who is thr one who introduced me to Bujold. She could stay with me and go to the conference!
Hmm, I'll mark the date then. I've become a terrible hermit in the past two years. I cancelled three planned holidays because I just couldn't go, and I rarely travelled anywhere. That should change in 2014, and another visit to the UK might be terrific.
Perhaps there'll even be a chance for us to briefly meet up, so I can admire the WIP. :D
It would be wonderful if this could tempt you out of your hermitage. And the WiP will certainly be here by that time, and ready to receive all admiring visitors!

Date: 2013-09-01 06:18 pm (UTC)Does the conference also admit non-academics as audience members? I don't think I could give a talk, but I would maybe like to attend as a listener.
Also, are you planning to be at Worldcon 2014 (despite your current WIP :P)? Perhaps I could make up for missing out on EasterCon 2012 there...
