I went to see The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp last week. It's Powell and Pressburger's best film (and thus a strong contender for best British film EVAH). The last scene makes me weep. To think of it being shown in 1943, and created using the talents of so many gifted refugees, not least Emeric Pressburger and Anton Walbrook... I'm welling up thinking about it. Talk about the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism.

Peter Bradshaw's review here. If it comes your way, go and see it.

The Film Programme has just had a show on it - will listen once I've rewatched it; it's been years.

It's the kind of thing that Filmhouse here shows sometimes. I'll keep an eye out for it.

We have it on DVD in the UK if you miss it and want to borrow it next time we see each other. It is a terrifyingly good film.

I've seen on - and enjoyed - most of Powell and Pressburger's films on TV, but so far not that one unfortunately.

I love AMOLAD too! My favourite of their films, although I know that Blimp is better.
