Have an Australian friend and he says the emotions roused by Anzac Day still run pretty high. Doesn't surprise me. I didn't do much research on the Turkish campaign but my mother was there, standing where the defending Turks would have been. Fish in a barrel, basically :(
A lot of people make the trip to Gallipoli, but ANZAC day now stands for all war, and I'd say the traditional poppies are from Flanders. There's still a huge turnout for dawn parades and services. We don't forget.
It's not well known but NZ lost more people per capita than any other country in WW2. (And look how the British treat us now.)
