This meme is from [livejournal.com profile] gair and [livejournal.com profile] katlinel.

1) List five things you can see without moving.
The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy Boston
The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
Searoad by Ursula Le Guin
My monitor
A microphone

2) How do you style your hair?
Style my hair? Are you taking the piss? I wash it and it dries. Every so often I get it cut. Across the years it has turned more silver.

3) Which do you use more often, the dictionary or the thesaurus?
The dictionary. I looked up ‘gore’ earlier, because Tolkien uses it in ‘Helm’s Deep’.  ('gore', n., 3. "a triangular tract of land, especially one lying between larger divisions". Origin: before 900; Middle English; Old English gāra corner (cognate with German Gehre gusset); compare Old English gār, spear.)

4) Who killed Nanna Birk Larssen?
The troll, fol-de-rol.

5) What are you wearing right now?
Black leggings and a black linen top. No shoes. I'm pretending I’m an Ent and splaying out my toes. Hoom hom.

6) What's one gluttonous thing you like doing?
Gluttony. I like accompanying [livejournal.com profile] mraltariel to fancy restaurants. Our last outing was to Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner, and it was scrumptious. We went with friends, sat at the chef’s table, and had a very jolly time.

7) What are you thinking about right now?
I’m thinking about how soon I can finish this meme and return to The Lord of the Rings.

8) Dog person or cat person?
Allergies prevent fraternization with either. I used to be a cat person, but these days I find dogs make me laugh more.

9) Write the first word that comes to mind.
Crotchety.

10) Would you be horrified if your partner/family/friends saw your browser history?
I assume they already know that I like reading fanfiction about Faramir, so, no.

11) A project you want to finish?
A project? Are you taking the piss again? A fucking project? What is this, school?

12) What are you doing this weekend?
I’m going to read The Lord of the Rings, and I might conceivably watch Doctor Who. There’s world championship snooker, I might watch some of that.

13) How are you? Truly?
Fine. I’m always fine. Except last week when I had a cold, and then I was furious.

14) What did you do today?
I wrote an article, sent it to the editor, went to the Co-op and bought a Cornish pasty, ate the Cornish pasty, read a fair bit of The Two Towers (middle of ‘Treebeard’ to end of ‘Helm’s Deep’), answered some (not enough) email, walked down to my old bus stop to see what it said now that my bus has been cancelled and doesn’t stop there any more (“No forthcoming services expected” or some such bobbins), watched the Kate Bush film The Line The Cross and the Curve, made up a story in my head about some Entwives being found living in Ithilien, boogied a bit to the Electric Light Orchestra, ran a mile on my treadmill, ate some chocolate cake, ordered some curry online.

15) What are you looking forward to the most?
I’m looking forward to [livejournal.com profile] mraltariel coming home later and I’m looking forward to watching Doctor Who on Saturday.

16) Last thing you did?
I ordered some curry online.

17) What are you doing tomorrow?
I am going to answer some last-minute emails from students, and then I’m going to meet some students for a last-minute revision supervision. And then I will be completely finished with teaching until at least September, so I’m going to celebrate by coming home and reading The Lord of the Rings.

18) What is your dream occupation?
My dream occupation is lying on the green futon in the book-lined spare bedroom reading some of those books. Sadly nobody pays.

19) What is your favourite kind of pie?
Shepherd’s.

Read The Lord of the Rings :) That sounds good. I haven't for ages (after having about ten years where I read it at least once a year) Trouble is, I'm such a slow reader these days that I'd still be there this time next year.

I've been dipping in and out so much for fanfic purposes that it's a while since I've read it cover to cover. Last week's cold gave me time, though, and a train journey over the weekend!

I know, it's ages since I've read it all in the right order. And these days I have read/written so much fanfic that I get surprised when my own and other people's OCs don't show up where I expect them (wot, no Hethlin?!) I really need an e-copy for train journeys and holidays, since my one-volume hardback isn't very practical to lug about...

You think you have lugging probelms... my copy is 3 big hardback volumes from the 1970s which I treasure but which weight a ton...

I may need to get something lighter - it's been way too long since I read them too (but I've watched the ovies oh so many times...)

This is a Kindle read. I like seeing the text differently. If you are desperate for a three volume paperback copy, I'm sure I can supply...

I was sort of hoping for something a bit Tolkien-y: "Weep, child, for not all tears are vain, and all things must pass in these mortal lands..." but it was nowhere near as good as that.

Mmm, shepherd's pie. I should probably have put fish pie on mine (so long as it does not contain salmon which does not belong in fish pie) but I was thinking of pastry things, not potato-topped things.

It is not right when buses are taken away and bus companies should not be allowed to do it.

Gluttony is scrumptious. Nom.

I was in the mood for something savoury rather than sweet, and so my thoughts strayed to shepherd's pie. Mmm.

My dream occupation is lying on the green futon in the book-lined spare bedroom reading some of those books. Sadly nobody pays.

If you should ever find someone to pay you for that, please make sure to ask them for me whether they are still hiring. I'd even watch telly in exchange for money.

I would happily watch telly in exchange for money!
