[livejournal.com profile] altariel: What a cracking little story! What great design!
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: What a lot of fine hats.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Mighty fine hats. The zero room stuff does go on a bit.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...ero room.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: And Davison spends too long on his back.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: I like his Doctor Impressions though. Do you think he got paid extra for them?
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: No. Have we done this story justice?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: "What a cracking little story" you said, and I mentioned the hats. So, yes.

Four to Doomsday
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Another...
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Don't say it!
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: ...cracking little story.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Yes.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Unusual, imaginative, faintly reminds me of a good version of the TV Hitchhikers.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: And it has got a Frog from Z-Cars in it. I also like Bigon.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Have we quite conveyed how brilliant it is?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: "A cracking little story" you said, and I mentioned the frog.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: So, yes.

Kinda
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: What a...
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: ...cracking little story.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Top Five Doctor Who
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Classic Doctor Who?
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: "Classic", please. Possibly Top Three.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Is it my go now?
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: If you must.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Can't think of anything else to say.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: About Kinda?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: *mustn'tmakejokeaboutchocolateeggthing*
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: You can make a joke about the chocolate egg if you want.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Yeboshakeychocadoobypotswobbletoy.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: And the Mara.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Oooh.Scary.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: This really is a cracking little story.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Especially when the chap from That's Life gets possessed and DCI Meadows goes mad.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: And Nerys Hughes.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Dame Nerys to us.

The Visitation
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: You like this a lot more than me. So why don't you explain to the good people at home.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: "I am but a poor journeyman..."
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Yes, that explains it.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: And it's a cracking little story.

Black Orchid
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: I like a Charleston.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: And I like a hideously deformed torture victim hidden in the wainscotting.

Earthshock
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Well, that was a thing that happened to me.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: It happened to me, too, I think.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: The end is quite touching. I didn't mind Adric. I thought the Fifth Doctor was unnecessarily grumpy with him.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: I didn't mind him either. He was no Steven Taylor though. So, ranking "stowaway companions", he comes second.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Surely there are other stowaways?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: I can't think of any. Sarah Jane maybe? So Adric would be 'third best stowaway companion'.

Time-Flight
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: That was a bag of shit.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: With glimpses. Of more shit.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: What makes it so shit, do you think?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: I remember "The Faceless Ones". And this does not bear comparison.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: There's no Pauline Collins, that's for sure.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: That's Dame Pauline to us.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: Baron, actually.

[livejournal.com profile] altariel: We have not spoken of Peter Davison.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: We have not.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: He's rather good. I feel in safe hands.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: He is. A proper actor - we've not had one of those since 1969.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: I like how old he seems - very Hartnellish, and yet he is not. Hartnell. Nor old. Do you like the costume?
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Surprisingly, I think I do. It is better than the purple coat from last season.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: I would also say that notwithstanding the last two stories, this season continues in that imaginative vein from Tom's last outings.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Yes, they're interesting and unusual, and quite well-written, designed and performed.
[livejournal.com profile] altariel: I'm sure it will carry on like this for another 20 Glorious Years.
[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel: Oh, at least.

How very true.

Ooh, Earthshock. My best friend at school had the world's biggest crush on Adric, and she was utterly devastated by Earthshock. For a week afterwards we could make her cry at will by humming the Who theme tune at her.

ME TOO. We had to buy it after New Who re-introduced the Cybermen and I was devastated ALL OVER AGAIN.

Jon Blum did a 70 minute fan edit of Time Flight, most notable for completely eliminating the character of Kalid. It's... well, it's still not very good, to be honest, but Blum does manage to unearth some small degree of charm that the broadcast version entirely buries.

Kalid definitely doesn't help.

I really perved overenjoyed Peter Davison's bodyacting as a kid. Anyone else remember A Very Peculiar Practice? One of the very few things I used to watch with my mother. I didn't realise till I googled it just now that it was written by Andrew Davies -- my how his writing's deteriorated...

A Very Peculiar Practice was awesome, particularly the increasingly surreal second series, in which the Prince of Darkness, Jack Daniels, takes over the university and turns it into a business. Due a repeat, I think.

The one-off follow-up, A Very Polish Practice, wasn't so great, alas.

I have the novels here, though I haven't read them in years, and can't remember if they're any good or not.

Surreal is the word I'd use. Wikipedia claims there's a DVD release due in May so I might see if [livejournal.com profile] mr_ea likes it.

I do. In fact, it is on order, but it keeps getting delayed.

I'll have to get [livejournal.com profile] mr_ea to follow suit.
