Glad you enjoyed! (That icon is so lovely.)

It's very good busy, but it's terribly busy. Soon I'll be able to stop and draw breath.

Thank you for the inspiration for the icon!

Drawing breath is good and may it roll on soon.

That's nice. I think he's into my top four.

I think Troughton is one of those four; my other guesses are McCoy and Pertwee. Anywhere close?

Eccleston not Pertwee. Although the Pertwee era is the first I remember in detail (rather than the string of images and lines I retain from Troughton), I don't feel strongly about him either way - though I adore Jo and the Master.

Darn, I switched Eccleston for Pertwee! I knew about the Jo and Master love and guessed it might extend to the whole "family".

Rory is moving steadily up my favourite companions list. Which currently includes, but is not necessarily limited to, Jamie&Zoe, Jo, Ace and Donna. And Adelaide Brooke, if she counts.

Rory (full name "Poor Rory") is adorable. I concur with your companion list: Jo was the surprise from our recent rewatch. I have a bit of a soft spot for Vicki and Steven, and Sarah Jane made me a women's libber.

That's interesting about Sarah Jane. I don't know whether the writers lacked the courage of their convictions, in that though she talked the talk she didn't really walk the walk. Although she was supposed to be this independent career woman, for much of the time she just seemed like a hapless victim for the Doctor to rescue, as with most of the other companions of that era. But I haven't seen most of those stories since they were first broadcast, so perhaps my memory is playing me false ands I'm doing her an injustice.

(She does get to walk the walk in the SJA, though, where I find myself warming to her much more than I ever did forty or so years ago.)

I suspect the production crew liked the idea of having a "women's libber" character but - not being one themselves - probably didn't have much of a clue how to write her. (Same problem with Liz Shaw.) But Lis Sladen brings so much charm and energy to the part. And, yes, she's wonderful in SJA :-)

ETA: I was all of five or six years of age when I was watching her stories, so she was convincing enough for me at the time! But Tegan is loads better at it.

I'm coming round to putting eleven among my top four too, although in my case the other three are Pertwee, Troughton and Ecclestone. It certainly helps that Amy and Rory are good companions, which I never felt either Rose or Donna were.

I honestly can't list them. I think there's only McGann I'm not fussed about, and Tom wasn't as good as either memory or scripts made him. And I'd had enough of Tennant by the end.

That's very much what I think, crystallised. I was ready to give up on DW with Ten's emo and RTD's writing, but I have my faith back. There has been a dud ep or so (the WW2 one for a start and I could do without Daleks and Cybermen for a while) but in general the joy and wonder is back.

Yes, exactly it. In a split-second, all the joy is back in the show. He lopes around and you want to lope around behind him.
