Anyone wanting to see From Time to Time, the film adaptation of Lucy Boston's The Chimneys of Green Knowe, can catch it today on ITV, at 2.20pm.

Too late - I'm so cross - the Radio Times didn't make it clear that it was a Green Knowe story - at least, not on today's page - but, thank you - i caught the last 15 minutes!

Darn! I posted as soon as I saw it was on, in the hope some people might catch it. There are some significant changes from the book, but I think it's well worth a look, whether it turns up again on TV soon, or you rent it from LoveFilm.

Thank you , anyway. What possessed the radio Times (and the programme resumes on screen) not to mwntion that it was Chimneys?

I wonder if they knew. The current draw would be that it was written and directed by Julian Fellowes.

I hadn't thought that they might not know - who is Julian Fellowes? it sounds as if I should know, but I can't place him

Created Downton Abbey, wrote Gosford Park, amongst other stuff: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Fellowes

Oh yes! I gave up on Downton Abbey, but other people seem to like it - so I might watch it when it gets shown again - some time this week, I think?

I'm not sure, I think you might be right. I didn't see it, although I gather it picked up after a couple of episodes.

Oh, gracious! I didn't even realize they'd made a film of that!

Now I want to reread it, if only I could remember where I'd put my copy...

It seems not to have had a very wide distribution: it was made in 2009, but didn't turn up at our local cinema until earlier this month (unless I missed it on release). There are some significant changes from the book, and it's not filmed at the Manor, but the stand-in house does a marvellous job of conveying the unique atmosphere of the place, and I think it's a rather good adaptation.

I hadn't realised they'd made a film of the book until we went to the Red Cross Open Weekend at the Manor this summer - they had a DVD there that I recall. I loved the books and the manor and gardens are so beautiful - is it worth acquiring?

It isn't filmed at the Manor, although the substitute house does a very good job of evoking the Manor. There are some significant changes from the original, but on the whole I think it's a rather good film: quiet and gentle, and I had a little cry at the end.

Streets ahead of the appalling adaptation of The Dark is Rising! And different from the Narnia films, which I think are essentially rehashes of the LotR movies.

I'd say worth a look, if you don't mind it not being filmed at the Manor, and you're fine with changes made in adaptations.

Drat - too late, but we will see if it is on catch-up TV.

At least I know now:

a) It exists.
b) Its name.

And both of these will be a great help to maximise my chances of seeing it in the future!
