Four inches of snow last night; pictures behind the cut. We kept getting powercuts last night, but at least the TV aerial didn't fall over, like it did in the last blizzard. (Fixing that involves [livejournal.com profile] mraltariel climbing out onto the roof.) Some serious-looking branches have fallen off the tree in the front garden, though.

I was wondering how you and my other Cambridge friends were gettign on. Looks lovely, if you can stay indoors.

Some of the villages have been without power since last night, so we seem to have got off lightly. We're meant to be going to the football in Nottingham tomorrow!

I'm glad I caught that morning sunshine because it's turned into a bit of a gloomy afternoon.

Neither of us drive, but we'll be picking our way carefully to the corner shop in a little while!

It's brilliant, isn't it?! Stay warm! We might bravely risk walking to the corner shop in a bit...

Very pretty. We've going a bit of a dusting of snow here, but nothing photo-worthy.

It's just started up again here. I'm thinking sealing the doors and hoping that a Man will be persuaded to bring us Curry.

Your garden looks lovely in the snow and I am very glad your telly is safe. The snowfall here was much lighter and is mostly ice on the pavements, or slush in the centre.

It's starting to look a bit treacherous underfoot outside. I don't think that the road was gritted, which it usually is. Hope we can persuade someone to deliver curry this evening!

Curry delivery is a most excellent idea. I am making kedgeree tonight in a desperate attempt to be contributing member of this household again.

Ooh, kedgeree... That is what I call a contribution.

Thanks! The storm brought a few power cuts, which made the telly cut out (horrors!), but at least we weren't without power overnight, like some of the nearby villages.

Them's lovely pictures, Altariel, I hope you don't get any snow on your telly, seeing how much is on your dishette. :-)

Our snow arrived this morning, and continued through the day. It's still snowing now, starting just as I began clearing the pavement outside the house.

It couldn't have waited a week, could it? :-)

Some power cuts during the snow storm meant the telly did disappear for a while. Just so long as it works fine during the Strictly final!

We were meant to go up to Nottingham for the football today, but decided it would be madness, given that another storm is predicted for Cambridge tonight.

How beautiful! I've only experienced four winters with snow, when I lived in England and Germany, and I don't think I'd ever tire of it. It's so crisp and fresh and new-looking, and I love the B&W effect on bare branches.

We get it just infrequently enough for it to be a pleasure, I think. It's getting a bit icy and slushy on the main road now, although the garden still looks beautiful.

Wow, that's a lot of snow! There's only a dusting here in London, we are protected by our pollution. I think that the safest thing to protect the TV is if Mr Altariel forms a shield with his body and just stays on the roof until it's all over.

In fact, he's been out there since 2am, in case I wanted to switch the telly on during the night.

The smaller tree at the back delivers pears, the larger one cherries (if the starlings don't get them...).

Not a jot or tittle here! (Well, not quite true, it snowed for about 5 minutes after school on Friday - enough to send the kids into paroxysms of excitement - but it didn't settle. Yet they had 3-4 inches in Thame, about 10 miles east of us, and lots down near Reading where my sis is. What gives??...)

Beautiful day today here, clear and bright sunshine and below freezing all day; we went for one of those gorgeous winter-afternoon walks after lunch with the sun setting behind leafless trees, then scurried home for hot chocolate and to finish decorating the tree!

Very icy underfoot round here now, although sunny and bright and still very pretty. We're going to brave a trip to town later, to get the last of the Christmas presents. I hope the buses are running!

It is *really* icy underfoot now. I'm not there's been any gritting or salting around here.

Ick! Ice on the roads is bad news. I hope you're not having to drive around much in it.

snow is pretty, but when it falls in areas that aren't used to getting it, it certainly causes problems. I hope yours melts soon!
