Comfort reading
Aug. 14th, 2003 08:58 pmI was supposed to be seeing Pirates of the Caribbean this evening, but I've come down with some nasty little virus, transported back from the US by Mr A., who acquired it on an internal flight somewhere between California and Texas. He's been ill all week, while I've just had a bad sore throat, but this evening I went all flaky after the massive exertion of walking to the shop and bringing back a bag of potatoes.
So instead of going to the cinema (*sob*), I'm rereading Bujolds. Diplomatic Immunity arrived this morning (I was waiting for the UK paperback edition to match my set, but caved in after prompting over the weekend). A new Bujold always necessitates a reread of favourite bits of earlier ones, which is not a hardship since I love them. Today I was mostly rereading Barrayar, Memory, and - of course - A Civil Campaign. And started the new one.

Date: 2003-08-14 11:30 pm (UTC)The film was highly enjoyable; a spoiler-free review to follow tomorrow, hopefully. But it's safe to say that I'll be up for a second viewing once you're ok again. ;-)

Great. Should we go for next Tuesday, then? Next question: do you have any preference for which showing? There's one at 6pm (finishes 8.43pm) and another at 8.30pm (finishes 11.13pm).
I don't have any evening commitments at the moment
I imagine you'll soon fix that with some classes...!

question
Date: 2003-08-22 02:08 pm (UTC)Re: question
Date: 2003-08-22 02:20 pm (UTC)Sorry, I was going to get back to you anyway. The later showing sounds best, then. So that's 8.30pm on next Tuesday.
Altariel and I are planning to get some food and drink in the Burleigh Arms on Newmarket Road (sort of just behind the Grafton Centre) beforehand. Don't know whether you fancy that, or joining partway through? Suggesting timings/possible meeting points:
7.00pm onwards - Burleigh Arms
8.10pm - Foyer of the cinema
Being lazy about queues etc, I normally sort out tickets in advance. Do you want me to get them for you and the BoT as well?

Date: 2003-08-24 12:35 pm (UTC)Re: pub, We haven't been there before - is it likely to be particularly busy (read: smoky) on a Tues evening? And what's the food like?
Re: question
Date: 2003-08-24 01:11 pm (UTC)Re: pub. Busy/smokey: almost certainly not (i.e. not unless there's a freak coincidence of a coach party arriving while we're there). Food is standard pub fare: sandwiches, burgers, omelettes, pizzas, pies, curry, pasta, quiches, salads, and steaks. Some of it's made inhouse, some of it's bought. Doesn't aim to be a culinary revelation, but it's reliably good. Sorry, please don't feel obliged: it was just a thought. We'll do that anyway, so it's entirely up to you.
