An interview with me by the good people at Unreality-SF.Net. Interview contains the following three words: Spartacus, handicap, and chunks. Yes it does.
Thank you! The recent film was about the Academy: it was loads of fun, a proper summer blockbuster. Cardassians are the sort of Europeans of the Trekverse. A whiff of decadence, and prone to chucking democracy away in favour of dictators whom they then have to get rid of at great trouble and expense.
They also slipped in a "chunky" of their own, possibly under your subliminal influence...
I did make a start on the book in an Indian restaurant last week - I felt obliged to read proofs on the trains/rail replacement buses, but thought I would be justified in reading for pleasure while in a restaurant. But their service was so prompt that I didn't actually get as far as I'd hoped!
Decided to try the Chinese restaurant last night; their service was also disappointingly swift. But I then sat drinking my way through the second pot of jasmine tea, which meant I managed to match Rugal's achievement with The Never-Ending Sacrifice. And then this evening I contrived to finish my proofs by Preston so I've beaten him now.
It's great! It's so funny to read a formal description of a conversation with someone one knows. I like to think of you musing and offering insights into your writing strategy. Was it a phone/RL interview, or did they send you the questions? Anyway, you came off very well, and if I didn't already think you were wonderful I would now do so.
They sent me the questions, which gave me the opportunity to make myself sound considerably better than I do in real-time ;-) I liked to see myself musing too!
That's a really lovely interview, in both the editorial comments and in your answers to the questions. Go you!
I'm sorry to hear that Margaret Clark has now also gone. It was nice, though, to have the chance to mention and credit Marco Palmieri, and your comments about both of them are characteristically generous.
It's a very early episode, Cardassians. But if you didn't know and the book still worked , then that means the first chapter did what I wanted it to do!

Date: 2009-09-18 12:31 am (UTC)Although I'm not Trek-knowledgeable, I'd totally read a story about Starfleet Academy (had to google "Cardassian" :).
