WOT NO GARAK?

I got Spock. Hmm. Fascinating.

I kind of intuited what my answer would be.

Typical INFJ. I fiddled with it until i got Kirk.

oops. Not sure if they fail to understand MBTI or they fail to understand star trek.

Let's be inclusive and assume it's both.

I'm not really clear why so many Trek fans seem to detest Troi so much. Anyway, you can console yourself with the thought that you had the very different Riker in second place. Do those two results imply that you are romantically involved with yourself? :)

I am my first and best love.

I don't dislike Troi, although I don't think she's the most marvellous of characters. The subject line was a joke that a friend and I used to have about the poor range of her dialogue: a touchy-feely equivalent of Uhura's, "Hailing frequencies open, Captain."

I noticed that the extent of her telepathic powers seemed to increase or decrease depending on the requirements of the plot.

She must get some credit for never having committed matricide.

:-D Lwaxana has a very sweet romance with Odo in DS9.

I haven't seen that, but there was an episode late in TNG where she was portrayed much more sympathetically.

I got Picard.

"A lover of Shakespeare and other
fine literature. You have a decisive mind
and a firm hand in dealing with others."

Fair enough. I was hoping for Uhura, but I decided a kilt didn't count as a miniskirt.

No DS9 at all *is sad* I did once do a quizilla quiz about secret agents where Garak was one of the answers, but I can't find it now.

Apparently, I'm Picard

From: (Anonymous)
But only 60% of him. I laugh at the "you have a firm hand in dealing with others" part. I'm 40% of my next option, so apparently, I am more unlike than like most of the characters, and according to the quiz have absolutely nothing in common with Sulu (wah!).

On the other hand, after Picard I am most like Uhura, followed by LaForge (yay!), then "An Expendable Character (Redshirt)."

Were there ever any female redshirts? I'm blanking out - my hunch is "no" or not often, or else they were somebody's romance of the week, and so never wearing a red shirt per se...

Yes! There was one in the episode I watched the other night (By Any Other Name). She was one of the two "landing team members [reduced] to small cuboctahedral blocks of a chalk-like substance", and she was not the one restored to human form (Yeoman Thompson, apparently).

I think I got Picard only because I admitted to sometimes being melodramatic or some such thing. I was going to say I *never* was melodramatic, then had to stop and reevaluate that notion...

As for being Deanna rather than unjustly-excluded Garak, just think: You get to be the Deanna who totally kicked butt in

That is one of my favorite episodes ever from TNG: the story demands strong women, and both women turned in strong performances that had nothing to do with family, romance, or anything of the traditional sort. So you still have the spy connection, and she proves she can do it very well. :-D

I had no idea! So redshirts can be women - canonically, even, and not by pure inference. How exciting - thanks!

The Face of the Enemy

Wow, I had forgotten that episode - go Deanna! It must be years since I've seen those later seasons of TNG.

Isn't it great?

From: (Anonymous)
I think Sirtis got to do more interesting things with time. Another episode that I remember with fondness was Disaster (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Disaster_(episode)). This, as I recall, involved another set of strong performances by Sirtis and Forbes whilst at loggerheads over a matter of command. Thine Own Self (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Thine_Own_Self_(episode)) was a good follow-up, I thought, and finally got her into a regular uniform.

And although she wasn't strictly speaking Deanna Troi, I loved Sirtis playing the heavy in Power Play (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Power_Play_(episode)).

But Face of the Enemy is my absolute favorite Troi episode, and ranks as one of my favorite TNG episodes of all time.

*sigh*

Back to the salt mines...

Dwim

P.S. NOT FAIR, LJ! I cannot read or reproduce Hebrew from your little "are you a human being?" test!

I've forgotten so many TNG episodes. I may be due a reviewing... but not till I've finised the batch of TOS episodes I have on the box. (I do remember 'Disaster' very well: "You May Now Give Birth.")

Poor Miles, always getting taken over/beaten up/wrongfully imprisoned.

I've been staying after work just because the computer here can play online television in real time, and I have found the mother lode of TNG episodes.

It makes the end of the work day fun!

I do remember 'Disaster' very well: "You May Now Give Birth."

That line never fails to provoke giggles.

Enjoy your TOS eps. Perhaps once I have finished reliving the 80s and early 90s, I'll try giving the 60s a whirl. Hulu or someone must have all the TOS shows online.

I am Uhura! Yay!!! I idolised Uhura when I was a kid. (And I didn't even cheat, I swear.) But then I am hopelessly unmechanical, not medically or psychologically trained, and consume whisky only in miniscule amounts, usually by inhaling, so certain options were pretty much ruled out. I suspect it was admitting to more than occasional miniskirt-wearing that did it.

*thumbs up* Result!

My panel at a Trek convention was scheduled opposite Nichelle Nichols and therefore practically unattended: quite right too since I would rather have been listening to her.

That has to rank pretty high on the list of Great Scheduling Bummers. I note her photo on her Wikipedia entry is of her at the 2002 DragonCon!

I'd bother to dig out a pair of tights so I could wear a miniskirt a good deal more often if I thought I'd get to channel Uhura as a consequence.
