Happy New Year!

We are back from our Christmas visit to K&J&R where we ate and drank and were merry, saw the wonderful and brilliant
toft_froggy, played many excellent games, including hide and seek with a tiny person and the highly addictive Zeus on the Loose, and OF COURSE watched Ghost Watch.
While I was away, the cover art to The Never-Ending Sacrifice was released: article about 2009/2010 Trek releases here or cut straight to big image here. I think it's smashing.
Last year I wrote a novel and a short story or two, read many books and essays, became a godmother, and I have landed in 2009 bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Today I'm going to do the washing, finish Anne Enright's The Gathering, make a planetarium, and perhaps catch up on some email. Happy New Year to you all, may your eyes too be bright and your tails extremely bushy.

Date: 2009-01-02 10:43 am (UTC)I had to google "planetarium", because I wasn't sure it was what I thought it was. And then it *was* what I thought it was, and what an enthusiastic start to the new year you must be making :).

Date: 2009-01-11 11:15 am (UTC)Honestly, I did build a planetarium! The Science Museum did most of the work for me, but some of the cardboard folding was pretty damn tricky, never mind the hole punching.

Date: 2009-01-02 05:44 pm (UTC)Although it took me a good two hours to assemble the thing - and that's only the northern hemisphere! It is, however, completely brilliant.

Date: 2009-01-02 11:39 am (UTC)Hooray! Look, an angsty dark-haired cerebral lone hero standing in the dystopian ruins of a civilization! Clearly an AMAZING book.

Date: 2009-01-02 12:05 pm (UTC)The Gathering was my 96-year-old aunt's request for her Christmas present, but I don't know if she's finished it yet! I last spoke to her on Christmas evening after Doctor Who finished.

Date: 2009-01-02 12:23 pm (UTC)The cover is smashing. I am looking forward to seeing the cover in RL along with the words inside it.
And here's to a brilliant 2009!

Date: 2009-01-02 02:37 pm (UTC)Oooh, nice cover. Was that their idea, or was there discussion with you? Either way, it looks brilliant - and I'm looking forward to the book itself.
Bring on 2009! I hope it's a splendid year for you, Mr A, and all of us.

Date: 2009-01-02 10:56 pm (UTC)Belated congratulations on becoming a godmother. My own godson has just told me he's put university on hold as he's going to play professional rugby. I can't wait to go and watch!

Date: 2009-01-11 11:17 am (UTC)So far the godmotherly state has been wonderful. I wonder if one day she'll come and tell me she's going to play professional rugby! How fantastic for your godson, and what an excellent decision. University can certainly wait.

Date: 2009-01-03 07:12 pm (UTC)The cover art makes me think, weirdly, of Dune. I think it's the tiny humanoid figure against the massive and towering structure/entity, both of them set off against a fairly flat landscape.

Happy New Year!
Date: 2009-01-04 06:22 am (UTC)I must have missed the clues. Whenever you spoke of Never-Ending Sacrifice, I foolishly thought it was a Tolkien Fan Fic epic, which I guessed was about Faramir. Seriously.
Well, duh!
Love the cover art and the choice of topic. I am hoping to see it in my local grocery store book isle; the true mark of success.

Date: 2009-01-08 12:29 pm (UTC)I love that you thought this was a Faramir story! The title would certainly suit. Keep watching those supermarket shelves and let me know if you see it :-)
Re: Happy new year!
Date: 2009-01-11 11:19 am (UTC)Yes, I can see what you mean about Dune. Small person, big society.
