I was going to spend some of yesterday writing achingly witty things back to people's comments about 'Journey's End', but I spent most of the day throwing up so I'm just going to make a low moaning noise and go back to consuming naught but daytime television. Where's Wimbledon when you need it? I'm going to have to start on Vanity Fair!

Date: 2008-07-08 05:25 pm (UTC)Hmm, Vanity Fair is another one of those books, for me, which divides women into the binary state of good-but-boring or bad-but-entertaining. It is a very long time since I've read it, though.

Date: 2008-07-08 06:54 pm (UTC)My patent anti-emetic is ginger beer. It also has water and potassium (needed if you are becoming dehydrated, but no sodium). If the bubbles are too much, you can add a little bit more sugar, and they will disappear. This works for champagne, too, I'm told, but I have never experimented (or seen why getting the bubbles out of champagne is a thing anyone would want to do).

Date: 2008-07-08 07:16 pm (UTC)Judging from my own experience, spending the day in bed with a tome to read is actually quite a good way to keep your mind off your upset stomach. Incidentally, it was when I was suffering from a major case of diarrhoea + nausea that I read Gone with the Wind for the first time.
But I hope you'll recover as soon as possible!

Date: 2008-07-09 08:07 pm (UTC)And an even vaguer feeling about Epsom Salts. Also fizzy, also ?alkaline ?with sodium. I have a memory from childhood that it was used to treat stomach ache, not only because of the laxative effects, but also because the fizzyness helped.
Babies need to be 'winded' - do older people need this too, in some circumstances? The happy burp!
