I was going to spend some of yesterday writing achingly witty things back to people's comments about 'Journey's End', but I spent most of the day throwing up so I'm just going to make a low moaning noise and go back to consuming naught but daytime television. Where's Wimbledon when you need it? I'm going to have to start on Vanity Fair!

Oh, I'm sorry - that sounds awful. I hope it passes as soon as possible. (If it's girl troubles, Omega 3 and/or vitamin E are meant to help stem the side effects, according to Wikipedia. And dry rice cakes are a safe thing to try eating, though I know not everyone shares my taste for them.)

Vanity Fair sounds like good sofa reading.

I think this must have been a stomach bug acquired via M's office. Period pain has waited for last night and this morning, ouch! (Actually, I don't get it that bad, a couple of ibuprofen get it under control. Well, they get the stomach ache under control: the red haze of rage that descends upon me is another matter!)

And, you are right about dry rice cakes. My austerity nibble of choice is toasted pitta bread.

::hugs:: Herbal tea? Feel better! Shall I send over some characters to ease your pain? ;)

Ooh, herbal tea is a good idea! I have some minty stuff in the cupboard. If one of those characters could be prevailed upon to nip over and put the kettle on for me...! :-D

This one has been going round [livejournal.com profile] mraltariel's office, I think: I usually end up with whatever goes round there.

Thanks for get well wishes! I have bravely turned off the telly and I'm now reading books. It'll never catch on.

I suddenly had a wild thought that throwing up might be exciting news, but from later comments it just sounds nasty. I hope you're much better soon, anyway, and Becky Sharp takes your mind off it.

No, it was just common-or-garden throwing up. I'm feeling a lot better today, though a bit tired.

Poor you. What a miserable bug to have. Something similar is going round at work and we've now reached the point where they're cancelling classes to try to stop the spread of infection. I hope you're feeling much better now - and there I was, thinking that you must be fanficcing Donna!

I hope you are feeling a bit better, and low moaning noises helped. Reclining on the sofa sounds like the best policy. Tomorrow is also a day in which you can be achingly witty.

Hmm, Vanity Fair is another one of those books, for me, which divides women into the binary state of good-but-boring or bad-but-entertaining. It is a very long time since I've read it, though.

I lay in bed and watched The Daily Politics. That helped the moaning. And finished up a collection of short stories about mothers and daughters which has been gathering dust on the bedside table for months now. Not a bad day, all told.

At least Channel 4 had "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" on this afternoon, starring Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney, which I hope you saw as I think you might have enjoyed it.

I hope that you soon are 100% again.

And thank you for the well wishes :-)

The bacon sandwich thought is, I think, a good thought, but not (perhaps) one to be acted upon.

My patent anti-emetic is ginger beer. It also has water and potassium (needed if you are becoming dehydrated, but no sodium). If the bubbles are too much, you can add a little bit more sugar, and they will disappear. This works for champagne, too, I'm told, but I have never experimented (or seen why getting the bubbles out of champagne is a thing anyone would want to do).

I wisely did not turn the bacon sandwich into reality. Ginger beer is a good idea: I usually have soda water. I wonder why something fizzy helps.

Um, herbal infusions to soothe your poor stomach and a bucket next to your bed, just in case?

Judging from my own experience, spending the day in bed with a tome to read is actually quite a good way to keep your mind off your upset stomach. Incidentally, it was when I was suffering from a major case of diarrhoea + nausea that I read Gone with the Wind for the first time.

But I hope you'll recover as soon as possible!

*shooes away the germs*

I'm going to switch to herbal tea today, I think, although I'm able to drink coffee again for the first time since the weekend, yay! Stephen Fry reads Georgette Heyer in bed when he's not well, I should have pulled a couple of those off the shelf!

I have a vague memory that soda water is alkaline and thus soothes an upset stomach?

And an even vaguer feeling about Epsom Salts. Also fizzy, also ?alkaline ?with sodium. I have a memory from childhood that it was used to treat stomach ache, not only because of the laxative effects, but also because the fizzyness helped.

Babies need to be 'winded' - do older people need this too, in some circumstances? The happy burp!
