The Bujold Fanfic and Fanart Fest 2008 is now underway! Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] sahiya for organizing!

The format is different this year. Between now and June 29th, prompts are being collected (on that post), from any of Bujold's universes: Vorkosiverse, Chalion, Sharing Knife (and, um, the other one that I haven't read). Posting a prompt or two doesn't commit you to writing a story or producing some art (although that would be lovely), and it does give people something to work with.

After the 29th, there will be a post listing all the prompts, broken up into categories. At that point you can claim a prompt (or more than one).

Posting will during the week of August 10th through the 17th: each day will have a category (a Chalion day, Vorkosiday, Sharing Knife, etc.) and the last day will be a Free-For-All in case you miss your day.

Full details here, so go and prompt!

Ah, the [livejournal.com profile] sg1friendathon did it that way; it's interesting to see how that goes.

Thank for the pimpage here! Are you on the mailing list? If so, we should probably pimp there too. I'm trying to think if there's anywhere else we can go - I got a few prompts initially, but none since.

This sort of format is a bit risky. I like it, but I'm nervous that no one will write. :-( [livejournal.com profile] crossover_hp had theirs formatted like this and they got five stories and two pieces of fanart, total. 'Twas most sad.

On the other hand, if I never have to run around again, holding kittens hostage to make people write their stories and arranging pinch hits (or writing them myself), it'll be too soon. So for the sake of my sanity, this is what we're doing.

So I saw! I especially like the Cordelia + Doctor prompt. Very tasty!

8-)
Miles and the Doctor has been done; I thought Cordelia would be interestingly disconcerting for the Doctor... (grin)

When was Miles and the Doctor done? WHERE?!

I believe it was mentioned on [livejournal.com profile] bujold_fic last year, but here's the link: Two To Make Peace

Ooooh, thank you! I hadn't seen any DW last year so I wouldn't have read that.

I'm not on the mailing list for spoilers sake (I'm in the UK and I wait for paperbacks!), but I think pimping there would be a great idea. And another post on b_f closer to the 29th might help, and I'll post about it here again too.

There aren't any LJ communities dedicated to publicizing ficathons, are there?

I totally sympathize about chasing people around and fixing up or writing pinch hits, and I think this is a much better way of doing it. There are some good prompts there already. I guess we have to take our lead from the Emperor and just see what happens...

BTW, would it help if I offered to co-mod on bujold_fic? I've hesitated because I've been cutting back on fannish commitments recently, and because, to be honest, I'm terrible at modding and I get bothered and cranky when I have to do moddish things. (My leadership qualities did not rise to the challenge of Third Year Form Captain when I was thirteen.) But if it helped keep the place running, and you didn't want to do it alone, I'd be glad to help. The place seems to run itself, to be honest.

I think there are comms for publicizing ficathons. I'll look into that (and possibly post on [livejournal.com profile] rarelitslash) and ask [livejournal.com profile] quietann to pimp it on the mailing list. And I'll post reminders this weekend and next week to the comm.

The comm really does run itself and everyone seems to play nicely together. What I would like to do is go back and tag old entries so people can find things. One of the major drawbacks of fandom on LJ is that it's impossible to find stories if stuff isn't tagged or in the memories.

Going back and tagging stuff is a really good idea. If you wanted some help with the slog work, please just shout. (I could take a year and work through, or whatever you wanted.)

I certainly hope it won't take that long! But the help would be much appreciated, thanks.

LOL, pesky English language! I mean, I'll take 2006 or 2007 or whichever and work through. Shout when you need me!

HA! That makes more sense. Yes, that'd be a good way to do it. I think it was created in 2006, so really if I took one, you took one, and I roped someone else into taking one, it wouldn't be that bad. It's not the most active comm in the world, after all.

:-) Yes, once you're happy with the tags, it should be pretty quick to do.

[livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen informs me that [livejournal.com profile] multificathon is a comm for publicizing ficathons too.

Yes. [livejournal.com profile] multificathon is one I know of.
