[livejournal.com profile] amplificathon 2008 has been finishing up this week in a veritable smorgasbord of audio-visual delights! Some of which I shall list here for your Friday pleasure.

The idea behind the 'thon was to increase the number and variety of stories in the podfic archive: as a result six hundred stories have been added, from one hundred and five new fandoms. Wow. There is surely something there you'd enjoy listening to, so go and find it and listen to it and tell the people involved how smashing they are, since they are all so smashing.

Onto the goodies.

First of all, pop-pickers, here is my awesome Seventies-style participation banner:

Ah, tape. How I miss you.

Crown yourself: There is also a participants' crown: by 'participants' the organizers mean "if you recorded, listened, thought about recording but didn't have the time, helped promote the community, filled out the poll, had generally positive thoughts towards the challenge, and/or whatever, please feel free to jump in on the crown party". You know you want to.

I haven't done mine yet: I was thinking of painting it black and then putting big silver stars on it so that it looks like the one Morgoth got done for himself after he pinched the Silmarils. You decide:

[Poll #1204183]

Small Fandoms Anthology: From this page you can download the 2008 [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon small fandoms anthology (as a podbook or as individual files). That's a collection of the first 21 readers to post in new fandoms (including me, yay!).

Tolkien fics: Fabulous reader [livejournal.com profile] greyonblue has done two more recordings. One of my vignette In Passing. Also a fantastic version of Anna L Milton's Queen's Gambit: Faramir and Arwen play a game of chess. Politics, the Alekhine Defence by any other name and Faramir taking his clothes off - a description that is as accurate as it is misleading. How can you possibly resist that? Go. Enjoy.

But I think you should also put feathers on it.

One single, large, scarlet feather.

Would that be the same "Delia's Gone" as the Al Stewart song, I wonder.

I'd hereby like to ask for your permission to do a reading of Lady of Silences. It should be short enough, and as a former radio moderator I should be able to do it the justice it deserves.

A quick google suggests not: the one I'm listening to is about a murder.

In that case, no!

I'd be thrilled if you did a reading. Thank you!

And sequins! You know Morgoth always wanted to but was afraid his minions would laugh at him. You are free!

Quite, my minions wouldn't dare laugh at me. These dark lords, they're rank amateurs.

How shall I crown myself Queen?

I'm not sure what the "other" should be. I only know that modelling your actions on Morgoth's could never be a good idea. :)

Oh my God, there are even Slings and Arrows podfics. (One of my recently discovered small fandoms, which I am trying to pimp to everyone and their dog.) Thanks for pointing the site out to me!

Yes, I should probably have remembered sooner that his iron crown eventually gets beaten into a collar for him.

Hurrah for podfic! Your banner is very cool. I hope it is served with 'oops.

I fail to see why you should be limited to just one crown. I think you should have a crown to suit your every whim.

(Edited because I used the wrong icon. This one is much more fitting.)

Yes, it has to be that icon! I like the idea of a crown for my every whim: my dad had a a different pair of specs for different activities (reading, writing, telly watching, snoozing).

It is now!

Congratulations on the shinies! And I think your crown should be like Aragorn's, with the tasteful little wings.

I need to listen to some more podfic.

God, that's a great idea. Perhaps I can have two crowns (*goes mad-eyed at thought of such riches*).

There's some great stuff up there, and [livejournal.com profile] greyonblue in particular is a terrific reader.
