It's a pity that the word "varlet" has gone out of fashion. I don't think that any other word conveys quite the same shade of meaning.

Chambers told me that Ursula means little she bear, which is not a bad name meaning to have. Better than etymology unknown, which is what mine is.

I shall expect to hear cries of "Unhand her, varlet!" echoing through the land. You probably need to be equipped with a chamber pot with the flags of all nations on it as well.

IIRC, "Little Bear" (or some variant) is one of the aliases Le Guin uses for herself in Always Coming Home. Can't find it in there right now, of course!
