Hurray, I'm NaNoDone! At the target, that is, although I reckon I'm about 40% through the actual thing itself. If you've nothing better to do, you can read a short and very unedited excerpt here.
I really crashed at the end last week and was stuck at 43,000 words for days - 7000 words seemed insurmountable on Saturday morning. Amazing what a really good night's sleep can do.
A short rest is going to be enforced: I have stuff to do over the next few days, and then will be away at the weekend. I'll come back to it at the start of next week.
Well done! I realised at least a week ago that I too am not going to finish the opus proper, but I'm determined to make that 50k. Though it's looking a bit tight at the moment. Still 12,700 to go...
Congratulations! I can't even begin to imagine writing 50,000 words these days. I enjoyed the extract - especially the last line. That was... I don't know - sweet doesn't do it enough credit.
I'm very surprised I managed it this year, I was woefully uninspired at the start of Novemeber. Glad you like the excerpt: there's a lot of background material that perhaps makes it a little odd taken entirely out of context...!
I'm so in the same place with the whole 40%-done bit as well. I keep feeling like I've gone off into this great rambling travelogue, and I'm really hoping that's just because I'm doing lots of subplot creation and fleshing out characters and so on...
I'm envisaging mine as being in three acts: I'm a little way through the second act now, with plenty to go. I've got the gist of the story, but the characters are subplots are coming out of the woodwork as I'm writing. What I really need is another big surge like the one I had on Act 1 the other week.
Yeah, I thought I had three acts, but this whopping great "get across country" bit seems to be turning into a whole nother one. That or I need to extend my notion of where Act 1 stops. I think some critical input about my pacing is going to be valuable in the end, but for now, I'm just keeping on writing till I get to Act 2...
My epic original fantasy novel was read by exactly four people - one of them "forgot" to give me back the middle part of it. That was my only copy, the whole thing being done twenty years ago, at the time of the mechanical typewriters. I could never bring up the strength to reconstruct those 200 or so pages.
