Today's the 44th anniversary of the first transmission of Doctor Who.

Sadly, today Verity Lambert has died, aged 71. Verity Lambert was the first producer of Doctor Who and, at that time, was the youngest and the only female producer at the BBC. She went on to become one of the UK's most distinguished TV producers.

Oh, that's sad news. I hadn't seen it - thanks for mentioning it.

It's largely just a sign of my ignorance, but I hadn't realised just how much she had done. Looking down that list on IMDb is rather like a looking over a selection of some of the most significant programmes that we've had.

Some amazing stuff. I loved the last thing she did: Love Soup, with Tamsin Greig.

This is sad news to come home to (I was out shopping today).

She was a trailblazer for women at the BBC. Her CV is amazing. I'm glad that she's appeared in various DVD extras and documentaries so we have records of her words as well as her work.

I adored Love Soup, the last thing she did. 71 just doesn't seem old these days :-(
