NaNoWriMo

So November looms once again, and with it comes the age-old question: shall I do NaNoWriMo this year?

I am currently in pretty good writing mode, so there's no need to kickstart myself like there was last year, and I don't particularly want to stop the project I'm working on right now to start up another one. On the other hand - who can resist the challenge? Stern words or egging-on to comments, plz.

I don't have any arguments to back up my opinion. I just wanted to be the little devil floating next to your head saying "Oh, go on. Do it. You know you want to".

If you're in the flow, which it sounds like you are, I'm not sure how much it would benefit you to interrupt it with Nanowrimo.

On the other hand, if you think it would be fun...

Great icon for that comment. Hmm, maybe I'll see how this draft goes and make a decision closer to November. I have an idea of which project I'd do, and 50,000 words is a good target for it.

Making the decision nearer the times sounds like a jolly fine idea. And if you have a project that would fit already...

Where did the year go???

I know!

Do you think it's worth blowing the dust off [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo?

Yes, definitely, for those pathetic souls among us for whom NaNo is just too much.

Right, I shall get onto that. Give me a prod at the next CWIL meeting if I haven't got round to it. It would be nice to announce the success N. had with her story!

Hmmm. As you say, it sounds as though you don't *need* to do it to get yourself writing. So could it be good in some other way? Say, as an experiment in some way, or maybe just as a chance to write without expectations?

I Had a Plan to do something specific, and then something else hijacked me unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago and Knackered the Plan. Hmm. I'll see closer to the date. Nothing to stop me doing all things at once, of course.

Surely you'd never do that! :-)

Well, it's nice that things are going well enough that you *are* being hijacked.

Think of your favourite successful pro fiction writer. Do you think they're going to do NaNo? Well, then.

Aw, but, you know, I'm not a real writer, I just play one on the internet.

Well, I know that I won't participate. NaNoWriMo always intersects with my Advent calendar thingie, and there's just not enough time, energy and nerves to do both.

There's nothing to stop you counting those as your NaNo project. Looking on TFF at the wordcounts for your last two Advent calendars, you were just below 50,000 on one, and well over on the other. But the only reason for doing it is for the rush, so if you think it would spoil your enjoyment of doing the calendar, probably best to avoid.

Well, the stress is there in any case - producing 24 chapters (or independent vignettes) within a month's time isn't exactly restful. Although this year I'm cheating a bit - I already have the Prologue and Part 1 done and Part 2 half-written, so perhaps the pressure will be slightly less.
