altarielJuliet Bravo is being repeated on UKTV-Wotsit at the moment. Last night's episode ('Gorgeous') was fantastic, like Pinter. It concerned the passion between the Deputy Mayor Elect of Hartley, Winterbotham, and his trashy wife, Gorgeous.
Gorgeous and the Deputy Mayor Elect are concealing something: they are in fact unwed. Gorgeous is already married to the local bad boy, Crasho, and this has allowed her and the Deputy Mayor to transform the script of their life together into a splendid melodrama. At the denouement, Winterbotham arrives at the police station and clasps his beloved Gorgeous to his breast. "Gorgeous!" he cries. "Your mascara! It's in ruins!"
They really, really don't make them like this any more, but they do still transmit them. Hurrah!
