Snow

So, yes, it's snowing, which in the British context is worthy of a post. And, contrary to expectations, the sky hasn't fallen on my head. In fact, traffic is moving smoothly along the gritted road outside my window, and the bins appear to have been emptied too. UK city in competent administration shock - although, of course, for all I know it's a post-apocalyptic free-for-all down the road. I'm going to spend the day in my pyjamas for extra cosiness, particularly as they're shot through with silver thread and called cyber-jammies. What decadence!

It is glorious! But I have to go to London and apparently the tubes are horrendous!

It's almost tempting to come into town and see what it looks like. But it's terribly comfortable in these pyjamas.

Safe trip to London and I hope the tube starts to sort itself out.

I was absolutely astonished when my bus turned up on time at 4:59 this morning. The tube and railways are reassuringly farked though.

Your cyber-jammies sound awesome!

I suppose the trains and tube are always teetering on the edge of farkdom.

The cyber-jammies look a bit like this, only with long sleeves, more pale blue than green, and I am not even remotely like the model except for basic species markers like opposable thumbs.

I remember all you Brits thought me crazy when I went out and took photos of the snow that fell at Redemption '01...

:-D And yet we still don't seem to get enough to be entirely competent with it!

Heh, yes, I think it's an entirely different relationship to snow! Glad it feels more homelike :-)

Most of the city's schools seem to have pushed the 'day off' button, which meant that there was more danger on the way in from kids throwing snowballs than there was from the snow itself.

Your pyjamas sound excellent, and definitely the best way to spend the day.

I guess the kids would be practically uncontrollable with the snow going on. And I imagine it's not so much fun trying to get in from the villages. Hope your travelling home won't be too bad.

Surprisingly, the snow seems to have stopped! At the moment, I'm gloomily facing the prospect of having to do a full day's work.

Yes, I would happily have seen it go on until the evening.

I got to work with little trouble though I had to take it very slow in places. The garden is looking lovely and the snow is perfect snowman consistency.

Love the pyjamas - the bow is very fetching indeed.

I bet it looks absolutely gorgeous where you are - did you take a camera?

Alas, I don't have the bow *sob*

Alas no camera. The elderly Newfoundland dog was frolicking around in the garden right in her element.

Heh, if I thought I could get away with I'd be frolicking too.

I think kerravonsen has more chance of seeing snow in summer than us New South Welshpeople. Mind you, it's not Christmas any more, which is when Victoria gets the freaky summer snow...

How lovely! We have only had snow once here in Manchester, but those ten minutes were quite magical.

And those cyber-jammies look so comfortable! Looks like you're all set to spend a nice day at home curled up with a good book/film. :D

I hope you get some snow later today, the clouds are heading northwards!

The cyber-jammies are extremely comfortable. I just watched Our Neighbour Totoro and all is well with the world! :-)

I think I can count the number of white Christmasses I've had on one hand (in 35 years).

no matter what alien planet the book is set on, it's almost never set in a cold, snowy, winter environment

Always summer and never Christmas! (I suppose Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness is an exception proving the rule.)

"I'm going to spend the day in my pyjamas "

A sensible move.

I love falling snow and the look of the neighborhood right after it falls. It was quite depressing to have a no snow winter up until a few weeks ago. I am glad we got some, because the white makes the damnable cold that followed easier to take.

Any society has a functional breakdown with more snow than usual. If you seldom get it, a few inches creates havoc. In Alaska, Colorado, or Finland, a few feet is cleared away in hours and life goes on.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

It was lovely to sit at my desk this morning and watch it fall. It's all melting rather rapidly now, though. Still plenty on the grass outside, but all gone from the pavements.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

:-D They were playing that on the news this morning over pictures people had sent them of various snowy scenes.

Ooh, cyber-jammies! Shiny! I did wonder for a moment if they were in Lisa-from-Torchwood-style, but then I thought that you'd never, ever kill the pizza delivery person. Imagine if word got round and people stopped delivering food to you!

I hope you remained pyjama-enabled for the whole darn day!

The tiny amount of snow we had has gone.

The horror! The horror!

I stayed in jimjam-mode till about 5pm. But it's choir practice tonight, so I suppose I ought to get dressed if I'm going outside. (Oh to be more like the Dude from The Big Lebowski.)

Or Arthur Dent?

I hope the roads were clear for your journey to choir practice.

We can only dream of being like Arthur Dent.

Roads were fine, thank you - it's very cold and wet but hadn't frozen last night. I'm not sure what it's like for drivers this morning.

Sadly, the snow's all gone now. It was gone by the early evening.
