[livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict has been visiting the past couple of days, and in between the conversation and coffee-drinking (and bits of the house falling off), we took time to watch the DS9 finale, which she had not seen before.

It's been a while since I've watched any DS9. And OMG I love DS9! Even an episode which has far too much crammed into it! Even an episode which doesn't entirely make sense! OMG! Weyoun! The Founder! Kai Winn! Damar! Kira! OMG GARAK!

Most of the rendering on the side of the house has fallen off in the storm. Fortunately our next-door neighbour's land rover wasn't parked there at the time like it usually is. And it was about twenty years old, so it was probably time for it to be done. And it's nowhere near as bad as what happens to Cardassia Prime.

It's recently started airing here, from the beginning (although I think they have mucked about with the episode order). And yes, of course I'm recording it. I'm even mostly keeping up ;)

Kira! Dax! Garak! Kira!

Yay!

BBC2 was airing TNG from the beginning at the end of last year, and I was watching that back, but it's not carried on in the new year, woe.

We're getting a triple bill - TOS, TNG, DS9 on Sunday mornings, sitting up in bed with coffee and crumpets. Although by the time DS9 comes on, I'm too fed up with the ad breaks, hence the recordiness.

This is where Tivo and related technologies really come into their own.

Yes, I trot off to the shower, and then I get back and chase the recording while eating lunch. Very nice.

I hope you weren't too alarmed about bits of the house falling off! But at least now there's a chance that the insurance company will contribute to the essential maintenance :)

I echo your woe. I'm hoping that its disappearance may be only temporary, due to an excess of Christmas and darts and snbooker tournaments having left no room for it.

Our Man Bashir is fantastic. It's ages since I've watched Badda-Bing Badda-Bang.

Glad you missed the storm. It's sunny and still here now, but the side of the house is a real mess. Ah well, at least no-one was hurt.

Eeep! I hope the rest of your house stays intact!

They aired DS9 episodes, for awhile, on one of our networks here, and I actually got to watch it. (As compared to when I was in college, in a rural town about 35 miles away over hill over dale from the nearest broadcast tower...)

The wind has stopped entirely now, so I think the rest of the house will probably stay up. I'm going to watch more DS9 to make me forget about it!

Yikes, that sounds a bit scary! Er, the house thing, that is, not having [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict to stay - which would be lovely. I'm glad that the rendering didn't cause any serious damage...

I quite miss my episode-a-week DS9 marathon. But, having just got the complete B5 set, I can feel another marathon coming on.

It all seems to be solid now. I mean, there's a massive pile of crap all over the driveway, but things seem to have stopped falling off now. I'm just really glad the land rover wasn't parked there.

I seem to be about to embark on a Deadwood marathon, courtesy of a mystery benefactor!

That was the series finale to end all finales. They covered EVERYTHING in that sucker. And Garak so should have had his own spinoff on Cardassia.

EA and DS9 an excellent combination ;-)

I'm really glad nobody was hurt by the rendering!

Me too, it could have been real mess.

Just about to go away for the weekend but I'll email when I get back so we can meet up!

OMG indeed. I so agree with everything you say.

I miss it. Not having cable I can't even see TNG like I was watching when I was back in Boone. :^( Am seriously considering biting the bullet and buying the DVDs.

And because you inspired me to look it up again: http://www.trekkieguy.com/startrekkin.shtml

I splurged and bought them a while back.

Now I have Star Trekkin stuck in my head...

OMG! YES, DS9 finale!

And I hope you and [livejournal.com profile] espresso_addict weren't too freaked out by the descent of the rendering.

Oddly, considering most of the side of the house had come off, EA and I didn't notice it at all. The lovely next-door neighbour had to knock on the door and say, "Er, do you know what's happened...?" (And then was all calm with me and offered to clear it all away.)

I'd put that down the weird and wondrous things that the effect of being in your house does to one's perception of space and time.

I'm glad the neighbour was calm and helpful.

DS:9 is my unquestioned favorite of all the Trek series. Gad, I was sorry to see it end. The finale wasn't bad, but I really disliked what they did with Sisko; it was much too up-in-the-air, I couldn't see him abandoning his wife and children for incorporeal Prophety contemplation. And I had disliked the direction they'd taken in making Gul Dukaat the avatar of the Pah-wraiths. (even if it brought him together in a brief affair with Kai Winn, which was rather amusing) But the rest of it was great, down to the holograph-guy (played by the wonderful James Darren,) and Garak apparently inheriting the governing of Cardassia. There was so much that was awesome in DS9; it had all of the things I look for in a series - humor, complexity, conflict, characters that can be cranky and human as well as incredibly brave and honorable...

I have got to get that entire series on DVD and spend weeks watching it all over again...Sigh. Even the silly "Allamarain" episode (which is not my least favorite, it gets points for novelty and the Odo/Quark shakedown).

DS9 had the best first episode of any of the Star Trek series; though the rest of the first season was rough. It just kept getting better and better.

Alexander Siddig has an interesting role in the current season (the sixth, I think) of 24.

The Sisko-Dukat plotline never quite hangs together for me either. Dukat makes a much better temporal enemy for Kira than spiritual enemy for Sisko.

I don't mind the Allamarain episode. The one I really have to watch from behind my hand is the one with the leprechaun ('If Wishes Were Horses').

Alexander Siddig deserves to be a lot more famous than he is, he's a really good actor. (Tho' I can't quite believe 24 is on its sixth series...)
