Oh dear, they cocked that up, didn't they? Time for some Robin of Sherwood, I think. And some acting lessons.

Maybe after the tapes got nicked, the robbers watched them and just handed them back. One more episode, and then it joins Battlestar Galactica in the TV toilet.

Oh, I LOVE Battlestar Galactica. So not into Robin Hood though.

I adore Robin of Sherwood. They had a chance to do something really fun with this new one, and it's just stoopid.

BSG hasn't worked for me at all.

But I like the new BBC1 hippos.

Hee! I haven't seen the hippos. Apparently there was a Torchwood preview at the end of RH. Now THAT I'm excited about.

Damn! We were watching on HD and didn't get the preview.

I missed bits because I was flitting around getting dinner, but thought it was pretty weak too. The woman with the mascara, eyeshadow and spiral perm was an early giveaway.

Plus the cool bit with shooting the rope was already done in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves :(

[livejournal.com profile] iainjcoleman reports rumours that it picks up markedly after this episode - I hope so.

In all honesty I should mention that those rumours are from Outpost Gallifrey, so, you know, possibly bollocks.

But, surey, if it was on the internet, it must be true.

Mr A. Speaks: "The cool bit with shooting the rope comes from Hang 'Em High. (Or possibly another Eastwood film. The Western being the American translation of the Robin Hood myth.)"

He does it in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, doesn't he? It's a scam where he turns his partners in for the reward, then rescues them.

I think Clint did the rope trick on *The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly*. Which wouldn't be a bad name for this programme(only substituting the first G for an H). But my two children loved it, for what it's worth, and were inspired to trash the house immediately after watching.

But the acting! Only Guy of Gisborne's boromiric surliness held my attention. Mr Hood himself was a sorry disappointment. Oh well - hoping for better in the coming weeks...

It was just dull - and kind of charmless. Ah well.

From: [identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com
Dull is dead right. Not even HD could save it.

Perhaps their idea of 'fresh' is the Saracen bow which is just *wrong*.

Bugger. I completely missed it. I was watching NCIS on Five. Ah well, doesn't sound like I missed too much.

Oh, thank you. I searched on the RT site and didn't see a repeat, but I must've had only the terrestrial channels in the search.

Thanks for the warning if it comes here.

So BSG doesn't improve? I still haven't forced myself to watch the rest of S2. The paranoid Americans in Space complete with politics shtick just bores and irritates me.

Boring and irritating is precisely what I think about BSG. S3 isn't here yet: I've read a couple of reviews for the season opener, which have either been hugely enthusiastic or - again - bored. I suspect it's going to be more of the same.

I read an enthusiastic one praising it as 'gloomy, hopeless, cruel and dark' and mentioning a personal squick that would put me right off watching. That's it. I won't bother with it any more. There are too many much more entertaining shows out there.

You'd be much better off finding the version from the 1980s, Robin of Sherwood.

I'm on Episode 3. What a magnificent imagining of Robin Hood! A Saxon cult leader! Dirty castles and actual forest-looking forests! And a wonderful looking Robin Hood of course :D
