Language Savvy
You scored a 240 out of 400 on language knowledge.
Congratulations! You know your stuff! You've scored higher than most people would and you probably have taken a linguistics or cultural science class to boot. Most likely you are bilingual or even multilingual. You are also probably fascinated by languages and want to learn more of them in the future. When you travel to a foreign country, you make a point to learn some of the language instead of imposing your own. It's people like you who help promote the exchange of languages worldwide. Keep it up!

I suck at languages.

I got the same score. It makes me wonder, if we scored barely higher than 50% accuracy, yet scored higher than 99% of the people who've taken it... who is taking this test?

Hmm, good point. The other end of the bell curve, I guess!

It does make one wonder, yes.

I only got 210 out of 400, and I also got the above result.

A lot of people on [livejournal.com profile] linguaphiles took this test and they all had the 99% despite their scores. I think the comparison algorithm is broken.

I got 260! I think the "you scored higher than" bars on a lot of these tests are broken.

Someone has posted a list of answers here.

Though I think West Frisian is closer to English than German is.

It most certainly is. Still only scored 230...

So do I.

It depends how you measure closeness, I suppose, but I was fairly sure about choosing West Frisian, too, when I did the quiz. Hmmph.

Hey, yeah. Good butter and good cheese is good English and good Frise. Fries. Freeze. Whatever.

And several of them are wrong. Not just the one about German being more closely related to English than West-Frisian, but also the question about the largest minority language in Western Europe (Catalan, not Rumanian) and the one about Papiamento, to which *all* the answers are wrong.

(If they had been correct, I'd have scored 300; now I only scored a measly 270.)

Huh! I suppose they were posting the answers to the quiz rather than the correct ones. I never bothered to check them.

Hmph, and I answered Catalan to that question too.

I scored 240, too. I haven't got the slightest clue as far as non-European languages are concerned (except for a basic knowledge of Japanese), so I was just guessing on those questions.

You can "fake it" in several languages? Now that has induced scary mental images in my dirty mind. *g*

I did a lot of guessing, particularly once I was out of the European languages.

290 and I went for West Frisian as well.

270.

Can you imagine the terrible things that would happen if seventeren year-olds were allowed to take the quiz?
