I'm in our flat in Edinburgh looking out the window at fettes college and beyond! Iain is watching buzz cocks and laughing lots. Hope you have a wonderful time!
The Dalek is full size. He has not e-le-vated in my presence, but I think that's mainly because he has the best seat in the house for the television and therefore no real need to move.
Thank you for your kind words about the B7 essay, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hope you enjoy the rest of the book, I think it's excellent.

Premise one: Daleks are the ultimate evil.
Premise two: Your Dalek has been vanquished by the telly.
Proposition: TV must be even more evil than the ultimate evil.

Well, your contribution certainly was a promising beginning. :D I think I'll move on to the essays on Doctor Who and HGTTG next, as I've got a fairly good grip on canon in these cases.
But... doesn't the Doctor vanquish Daleks all the time? Surely this makes telly a force for good in the universe?!
Several of the essays, particularly the historical overviews, read very well without knowing the specific canon (in the case of the essay about television from the 1950s, the canon barely exists any more, of course!).

I never said I wasn't employing faulty logic...
Hmmm, according to your premise, it would also be possible to prove that the Doctor is, in fact, a TV set.
1. Doctor vanquishes Daleks. 2. Your TV vanquishes Dalek.
--> Your TV = the Doctor.

Oh, that was one of the reasons I bought the book -- so that it might serve as a sort of intelligent introduction to all those programmes I haven't had a chance of watching yet. But it's just a little more fun if you know the show and can see for yourself whether you agree with the writer's interpretation or not.

Hmmm, how big is the Dalek? And can it e-le-vate?
And completely OT, I have read your article Resist the host on Blake's 7 in British Science Fiction Television. A Hitchhiker's Guide.
While I don't still know the show itself, I nonetheless liked your very succinct overview of the theme of utopian/dystopian politics in mainstream TV.
