Hey, someone remade Blake's 7 and I never knew! I missed the start and I've only watched ten minutes, but so far we've had pacification drugs, rebels massacred in a basement, and Sarkoff's gramophone records. No sign of going into space either - see, I knew it would work.

It's my son's favourite movie. I don't think it quite sustains its premise, but I enjoyed it.

Exactly like B7 then! I think Brazil was my favourite film when I was a teenager.

I am off in a minute to read through what you sent me yesterday, and should get some comments to you by this evening. From a quick pass through it's looking really good.

Thanks, I cut the awkward second paragraph altogether, and I'm putting in more about the charm and feel of the show at the start. Please don't think the questions and commands in yellow are directed at you, they are pointers for myself to address, but I'd be happy to have advice.

Hehe. I rather enjoyed it. It didn't get great reviews, but then I got the DVD as a present (Christian Bale! Puppy!), so I watched it a few weeks ago. Actually quite good, and waaaay better than the reviews had made me expect.

If you want to borrow the DVD for the start, let me know.

He just met the puppy. I'm not sure how much I missed, actually, can't be more than ten or fifteen minutes.

Did you get to see Sean Bean? If you did, you can't have missed much at all.

I saw his name on IMDB. I came in just before Christian Bale starts rearranging his desk. Have I missed Sean Bean?

From: [identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com
Ah, yes, you have, afaicr, unless there are any flashbacks later on. I can't say more without spoilers for others here, but the desk re-arranging sort of follows on from the early parts with Sean Bean.

P.S. But you can't have missed very much more than the Sean Bean sequences. I think the desk is one of the earliest things after them and the immediate follow-up.

And Sean Pertwee, apparently. The thought of Sean Pertwee and Christian Bale in a totalitarian state with swords and sartorially-awesome coats fills me with something akin to glee.

And Sean Bean. The thought of Sean Bean and Sean Pertwee in the same film makes me worry that the universe may fold in on itself.

Actually, Sean Bean and Sean Pertwee have already been in another film together, and the universe hasn't imploded yet.

But this was the 1991 TV adaptation of Clarissa, so there wasn't any dystopian regime in sight. And no nice coats, either.

I watched that at the time, and I had completely forgotten the Two Seanies were in it.

Well, I only remembered because I bought it on DVD less than a year ago. And I watch costume dramas far too obsessively...

I don't *think* Sean Pertwee gets to wear one of the coats, though Sean Bean does. But they're *very* nice coats. High collars will do it every time - and the black, obviously. Ahem.

Can we get you one, then?

Ok, *nearly* every time. Sadly, they wouldn't work on me.

I think we should get one, just to make sure.

Poor glitterboy. I keep imaging a giant doll with which kalypso plays dress-ups. My apologies to both if it causes running away and screaming on either part...

I haven't noticed any running away and screaming when I utter the magic words "Would you like to try on...?"

*nods* It's the giant doll bit that might've provoked the screaming. From the sounds of things, magic words and all that, there's quite a load of free will being invoked :)

This was on the telly recently. I just got there in time to see the end of Sean Bean and kept on watching, hoping it was going to get a bit better, but it never did. I stuck it out to the end - making me late for bed - and regretted it.

That was when I recorded it - I saw "dystopian future blah blah suppressed by drugs blah blah one man's struggle" and thought, "this is the film for me!"

From: [identity profile] edge-of-ruin.livejournal.com
I like that sort of thing sometimes.

I wasn't keen. I just can't help but feel that a film where the principle characters aren't allowed to emote is doomed to failure.

Gunkata's a nice idea, though, if flawed; the same fight sequence appears in Aeon Flux - several times.

LOL! He did go gooey-faced at the puppy. And he had a cry when he heard classical music for the first time. Which is more than the Vogan Guard did ;-D

Sounds just like a reimagined Battlestar Galactica, doesn"t it? Skirt-chasing-pilot turned into blonde bimbo, good, reliable pilot-turned-into-evil-female-Cylon, and actually everyone is American somehow...

They should just let the fans remake these things.

Yeah, it's the same thing as with fanfiction. The really well-written pieces are so much better than the so-called novels that are published to the various series. Present company excluded, of course. :))

It doesn't exactly add anything to the dystopian genre, but I'm always enchanted by the glittery tinsel of neo-fascism, so it pressed my buttons. It had a nice thirties feel throughout, and I think it might have been filmed in Berlin. I don't think it's worth a full price DVD.

Oh, but I'd say it was worth renting.
