I didn't post anything about 'Rise of the Cybermen'. So I will.

[livejournal.com profile] selenak has already said the vaguely interesting things I had to say: is Mickey the 'spare part' for the chop (thanks to D. for calling this a "Metal Mickey" theory, LOL!), will the Doctor meet the alternate Time Lords? (I wondered whether they had pulled TARDIS pulled into the alternate universe.)

Altogether, quite a straightforward Doctor Who adventure. Very like 'Aliens of London' only, er, not crap. I wasn't particularly wowed by Graeme Harper's direction, which was a bit of a letdown, at least not in the way that Joe Ahearne's episodes do splendid things to my head, although 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' bit was superb. And the new Cybermen look just fabulous; all those dance lessons definitely paid off (but which one was Jonathan Ross?!).

I'm a big fan of Jackie and Rose, but I got the strong feeling in this episode that their story was coming to its conclusion, or that it would need a real change of emphasis to keep me interested much longer. WTF is Roger Lloyd Pack taking? "My dreeeeeammms of conquest...!" ect. ect.

So, a mixed bag - didn't have the wow factor I was hoping for, but Cyber-beauty and a splendid gothic pop moment. Next episode, I want HORROR. And more spinning blades.

'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' bit

Personally I'd have gone for Happy Days are Here Again, but that's just because Adric was sooooooooo irritating ...

Aw, I have a soft spot for Adric. And at least he's Not Bloody Nyssa.

I don't mind Nyssa. Mostly, despite her planet getting wiped off the face off the face of the universe, and everything she cared for being generally folded, spindled or mutilated by the Master, she was practical and unwhiny. I can't help admiring that. And she's not Ace the Therapy Case the 7th Doctor turned that companion into. If anything, that's more annoying than Adric ever was...

Theoretically, she's fine, I just think the performance is pretty gruesome. Thank god they brought back Sarah Jane instead.

Probably she was the inevitable choice, *the* companion of Davies' childhood (well, to start with anyway...).

Steady on. You'll be demanding monkey bars next.

Is it really that much to ask?!

For you, my dear, not at all.

Let there be horror, spinning blades, monkey bars and all. How about some thumping pistons for good measure?

And a mighty hat.

Is Mickey the 'spare part' for the chop?

I really don't hope so. I'm all for Ricky getting killed off and Mickey staying behind to take care of his Gran. He's become such a great guy by now, and I certainly wouldn't want to see him dead.

WTF is Roger Lloyd Pack taking? "My dreeeeeammms of conquest...!" ect. ect.

Heh. My thoughts exactly. But I did like the "from beyond the grrraaave" line in the teaser. It's so bad that it's already good again.

I'm getting persuaded by the Rickey-Mickey swap. Because I'm fond of Mickey and I want him to be happy.

One of Mr A.'s colleagues nearly switched off at "from beyond the graaaaave". But stayed (well, what else would you watch on a Saturday night?!). And enjoyed the rest.

What? But that's the best line ever! And one which I have been quoting to a highly annoying extent, as [livejournal.com profile] i_smell_shite will testify... FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE!

It has actually replaced "I can't stand the confusion in my mind!" as my all-time favourite quotable line from DW.

I'm very worried for Rickey now. It just makes too much sense that there's an extra grandmother and a *spare*. Argh.

Next episode, I want HORROR. And more spinning blades.
Yes!

Think we'll have more Lion King references?

I think Mickey as replacement for Rickey is very convincing :-(

They'll have to tell me if there are more Lion King references, I've never seen it!
