Fairport Convention at the Corn Exchange. Great stuff. Between this and the Folk Britannia season on BBC4, I can feel moss starting to grow on me.

We sadly missed Richard Thompson thanks to having flu. But here's a link to a clip of him singing a bit Adieu, Adieu, my current earworm. And click on the link for a bit of Bert Jansch playing Anji because that's bloody brilliant.

Missing flights

And while this was going on, I was missing a flight from Denver to San Diego, because of the snow in Newark. Boo to being away from home.

Mr A. (listening to "A Sailor's Life" on his MP3 player in lieu of the real thing)

Boo! I hope things are getting sorted out now, and you'll be back home v.soon.

Thanks! I'm a-waitin' at Denver airport for a flight out to San Diego right now. At least there's no snow at either end (although I gather *Florida* has an Ice Storm forecast... Florida!)

Poor you :-(

There were two support acts including PJ Wright (v. good, not on long enough) and also Ashley Hutchings' new band the Rainbow Chasers (bits of it good, but a bit Albion Band for me - oh, they did a fantastic song by Nik Kershaw of all people!). Ashley Hutchings was funny, he said Ric Sanders "would be the nicest man alive if it wasn't for Chris Leslie".

They were all very pleased about Liege and Lief winning that award and so they should be.

Edmund the trumpeter came on for a really good Ralph McTell song about a civil war battle on the fields near Cropredy, and also for Meet on the Ledge at the end (*she blubs*).

Chris Leslie's hair has gone alarmingly long, I thought it was going to get trapped in his mandolin at one point. Simon Nicol looked more cheerful than he has done in years. He's decided just to be outwardly grumpy about having to do Matty Groves ("inevitable encore" and "customary murder ballad"), which means he enjoys it more. And he did the line: "How do you like my feather bed? How do you like my sheets? How do you like my curtains that I got in Ikea last week?"

Did they do Tam Lin? I gather they've brought that back for this tour.

Oh, brilliant! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

And don't worry about the moss: it'll impress the undergraduates. 'Ivy-covered professors...' and all that.

Sounds great! Sorry about missing Richard Thompson though. I caught some of Folk Britannia last night - Adieu, Adieu is a lovely earworm - I'm stuck with All around my hat ...

I made a conscious effort not to get All around my hat stuck in my head. Hurdy Gurdy Man is threatening to take over from Adieu Adieu.

Funnily enough I was at the Fairport gig at the wycombe swan last week ... and very good it was too...

I remembered you were a Fairport fan and was wondering whether you'd seen them yet this time round.
