I have the option selected to log the IP addresses of all posts. So hafren's post had "Poster IP Address: 62.252.32.13", and I checked it here, which told me it was in Cardiff.

There are a bunch of IP address tracking programmes online, if you search on Google, but this one is a start (although it seems to be giving fairly hit and miss results to people - I've used one in the past that gave several suggestions for place, but can't find it now).

That's definitely a help; I must be totally daft, though, in that I don't know where to find the log for the actual IP addresses that are being logged, before looking for them! I should probably try the LJ FAQ. :P

Have you picked the option to log IP addresses? The FAQ on that is here. I think where it shows on screen might be dependent on the layout you're using, but it's usually near the bottom of a comment, above where it says 'Reply'. IP addresses don't show on the email notifications you get - you'll need to look online.
