Television these days is pretty much given over to police shows or hospital shows (or what I call icky shows of twisted sickness), i.e. cops and docs. Preferences (guess mine)?

I would vote "Neither", but that isn't an option.

No really good police dramas?

Possibly, but I watch very little TV. The last police drama I watched regularly was probably Columbo.

What he said.

The only medical show I watch is House and only for his snark. I suppose the closest I get to a cop show is Monk.

Several people have said I'd enjoy Monk, but I keep forgetting to watch it.

It's fun. Light, entertaining fluff with quirky characters, including the police, and a classic detective story with no graphic stuff to squick me (I don't like the body tours in House either). I came to Monk late because of not liking cop shows; lucky they repeated it.

Favourites at the moment (in the absence of any SF at all) are Hustle and a local show called Outrageous Fortune about an eccentric family of career criminals that really pushes the bad taste envelope sometimes.

Our DVDs of season 2 of Hustle landed at the start of the week and have been devoured. God, I love that show.

Me too. I was about to buy the S1 DVDs when it came on here (it's still showing). If S2 doesn't appear quickly I might consider buying it but it's so expensive here: postage dooubles all prices.

If you do decide to invest, keep an eye out for whether or not they're the edited DVDs: when S1 was released over here, it was the edited episodes for US transmission.

Thanks for the tip. I could get very addicted to Hustle.

Docs! I am so addicted to House right now. It's even overtaking CSI as my favourite!

I watched half of the first episode, and all the medical stuff squicked me out.

That's a bummer! I watch the show for the snark. The dialogue is usually very snappy and fun. Yesterday's episode was particularly good, since I have quite the thing for House/Cuddy. *waves shippy flag*

I mostly tune out the medical jargon, since I have no clue what they mean, and I look away if they're doing the gross magic school bus tour through the body thing!

I've read some of the snark online and I love it. But the magic school bus tour thing (excellent description) just did my head in.

Aw, that's too bad. If you want to know about indicators to turn your head away, they usually start with the heavy drums and suspenseful music and a fast zoom-in on the patient right before they dive in.

Man. I'm paying wayyy too much attention that show. But it's so wonderfully addictive. :D

I might risk another episode. But I really, really feel queasy looking at innards.

I think the show is quite worth the risk. :D

Well, for some strange reason, I had a Julian/Simon moment, which was very "oooh, pretty!" so I voted docs. But only docs without twisted ickiness.

Docs without doctoring.

Exactly! None of that messy, icky stuff.

With [livejournal.com profile] katlinel, I voted Docs because of Simon and Julian, and, I dunno, maybe Andy and Harold on "Everwood." And Doctor Who!

But in general, neither cop shows nor doctor shows do a thing for me.

God he's lovely in that icon.

Doc-shows make me feel queasy. And I love Law and Order... which is mostly cops.

Depends on the docs and cops in question. If the docs were, say, Cardiac Arrest, then they'd trump pretty much any cops I can think of except Star Cops. Some of the Doctors Who, ditto. Some other docs, they might or might not.

I stupidly didn't think of Who-doctors until after I'd posted the quiz.

Cops, definitely cops. Why would I want to go home at the end of the day, turn on the TV, and watch more work?
