So apparently you can now add Schools to your LJ bio page. Christ Almighty, and I spent all that time trying to get away from my schools.

I am a bit puzzled that I appear to be the only person who didn't hate my school. Is that because it was all girls, or because it was direct-grant-then-independent, or is it some weird personal defect?

Mine was all girls. But it was not a place to be enthusiastic about learning. The teachers were a bit suspicious of that, never mind the other students. My sixth-form college was a lot better.

It's sounded in our past discussions as though your school managed to achieve the best of various things, with academic commitment and achievement, but without the hothouse approach that so marked MGS.

Of course, my 11-16 school was something else again. From what I gather from my father, I think it might have suited me better as it had been a decade or two earlier. As it was, I arrived at a time of impending comprehensivisation, uncertainty, and ongoing falls in both standards and morale. That said, I think I did better there than I would have done at MGS fron age 11!

Golly, I was there on Tuesday night! We had a really nice buffet, with a cold terrine made of aubergine and peppers and stuff. And the girls were supposed to address us on their trip to Bolivia - well, they did, but without the pictures, because they couldn't get the slide show software to work, which was a pity because the pictures were said to be stunning. And halfway through that the fire alarm went off and we had to file out of the building, which as someone said seemed quite like old times, though it turned out to be only because someone playing lacrosse in the gym had accidentally smashed the ball into one of those break-the-glass-and-sound-the-alarm-thingies. But Janet said some of the firemen who turned up were the same ones who'd come when they had the Big Fire a few years ago, so it was quite nice to see them again. And the best thing was that A turned up, which she hasn't done for a few years.

I''ve managed to completely forget all three of the schools I was expelled from, though Sherborne still, bizarrely, send me the occasional Old Girl spam mailing even though I told my sister to tell them I'd died.

At the moment I'm torn between listing St Trinian's up there or just making something up...

I think, from this post in news, they're using the word 'school' to mean 'university' in the American sense. Took me a while reading the post to figure out why so many LJ employees had gone 'back to school', that that's what they meant.

I was accosted in the street last week and informed of an upcoming Middle School reunion. That's just wht you need on the way to a dentist's appointment. Fortunately, i'm in Plymouth. They can't get me here... :-0

Think i'll list the Federation Space Academy. Or Belhangria University. Or both.
